Introduction to Forest Preparatory School

Forest Preparatory School is on the cusp of a very exciting development of the site, as final approval for an expansion and building project has just been given which will enable Forest’s provision to rise a new and even more innovative level. Benefitting from the structure and the economies of scale it brings, Forest Prep School is a vital component of an all-through school which teaches pupils up to the age of 18. Currently 2-form entry from Reception to Year 6, Forest is expanding to increase the number of pupils starting at Reception and will, at full size, reach 325 pupils.

Our approach to a child’s educational experience is markedly different in many ways from other schools: Philosophy for Children, Engineering and Mindfulness sit alongside traditional subjects such as Maths, English and the Humanities; our Performing and Visual Arts and Sport provision is outstanding and provides tremendous opportunities for pupils to explore their interests. 

The Leadership Team in the Preparatory School consists of the Head of the Prep School and Head of the Pre-Prep, the Senior Deputy Head and three Deputy Heads, Academic, Co-Curricular and Pastoral, the latter three posts reporting to the Senior Deputy Head.  The team is supported by Preparatory School administrative staff and works closely with the whole-school Senior Leadership Team.

Introduction to the role

The Senior Deputy Head of the Preparatory School will assist the Head in the provision of professional leadership for the whole school (4-11), as an integral member of the Preparatory School Leadership Team. The Senior Deputy Head will help to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the school. The Senior Deputy Head's role is to be an exemplary practitioner, innovative, driven, promoter and developer of Forest Preparatory School's ethos and policies. (S)he will have high expectations for all children and staff, as well as excellent organisational and inter-personal skills. 

The role therefore involves significant strategic, as well as operational responsibility, alongside project management, and specific responsibilities for areas of whole-school life. 

The successful candidate will:

• Have experience at a senior leadership level at their current school and be able to provide evidence of the impact of their leadership skills at middle or senior management level

• Be an exemplary teacher who delivers outstanding lessons with proven ability to teach to the highest of standards in at least one Primary Key Stage, and have experience of upper Key Stage 2

• Be able to engage and enthuse children and promote high standards of work

• Have knowledge of SEND and a proven record of raising standards for pupils of all abilities and backgrounds

• Have well developed inter-personal and communication skills able to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders, and a comfortable and confident public speaker

• Be an enthusiastic and energetic person who is supportive, approachable and positive

About Forest

Forest School is an independent school for boys and girls aged 4-18yrs established in 1834; benefiting from a tremendous location on the edge of North-East London.  London’s only diamond structure school, Forest combines both single-sex and co-educational teaching on a single site as pupils move up the school.
