Job overview

Working with our partners, the British Computer Society and Raspberry Pi Foundation, we are working with the Department for Education to establish a new National Centre for Computing Education, and deliver a comprehensive programme of support for computing teachers in primary and secondary schools, and FE colleges.

The NCCE is a comprehensive and ambitious programme to support and improve the provision of computing education in England’s state-funded schools, improve teachers’ confidence in teaching the computing curriculum, and drive up participation and attainment in computer science at GCSE, AS and A level.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to drive forward the engagement of teachers, support staff, schools and colleges with Computing and other STEM-specific professional development, resources and careers support across the Network.

You will build the capability and capacity of our Computing Hubs, Science Learning Partnerships (SLPs), STEM Ambassador Hubs (SAHs) and other regional partners to impact positively on young people’s engagement and enthusiasm for STEM subjects. You will be contributing to raising aspirations and educational standards and ultimately enabling more young people to pursue STEM-related education and careers.

The successful candidate will provide the strategic lead for educational support and challenge for the NCCE and Computing Hubs to ensure it can build a reputation for the quality and impact of its interventions. This will include leading the development, deployment and quality assurance of an evidence-based national teacher professional development programme and helping to ensure that KPIs for programme reach and impact are met or exceeded.

With a proven track record in computing or STEM education, including recent and relevant senior leadership experience you will engage credibly with our consortium partners, school and college leaders, governors, government officials and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Significant experience of working in and across a range of schools/ colleges to improve student attainment and progress in computing or STEM subjects is key and will include the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of effective subject specific professional development (school/college based and external CPD) with proven impact on teacher development and student outcomes.

The successful candidate will have experience of managing complex projects and programmes to time and on budget. Highly developed communication skills will enable you to work remotely, and influence effectively within a matrix management organisation.

About us

The successful candidates will join a highly professional, progressive organisation whose mission is to achieve a world-leading STEM education for all young people across the UK.

The National STEM Learning Centre and Network is the UK’s Number One resource for supporting STEM teaching and learning through the provision of CPD, resources, online communities in partnership with a wide range of organisations and individuals. This includes driving forward ongoing development of the STEM Ambassadors and STEM Clubs programmes alongside subject-specific support for all involved in the teaching of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to young people.

Salary £50k - £60k dependent on experience. Appointment to this role enables access to the USS pension scheme, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays and a wide range of staff benefits. This role is home based.
