Role & Responsibilities – Welfare Officer

1) To hold an up to date 3 day ‘First Aid at Work’ qualification and attend any other relevant training.

2) To support staff to have an up to date knowledge on the schools medical policies and procedures, sharing information during briefings and via email

3) To immediately attend to children who injure themselves in the appropriate way and assess children who fall ill at school, helping to make the decision regarding the appropriate action to take.

4) Take an overview of children’s welfare, reporting any concerns to the Head of School and if necessary the Head of Children’s Services.

5) To audit and order First Aid resources as required and ensure these are distributed appropriately, including Harrow Hall Farm & Watersplash 2

6) To put in place systems to check the classroom First Aid boxes, weekly replenishing stocks and ensuring they are stored in the correct place (dedicated shelf). Checking validity of First Aid box contents & replacing any missing/used items.

7) To have an overview of children who have specific medical needs in school creating classroom posters and liaising with parents to clarify needs if required.

8) To ensure that parents update their child’s medical information via the laser if they have critical medical needs and to meet with parents to clarify need if required.

9) To meet with parents and write Risk Assessments for children who have short term illness or injury (e.g. broken arm)

10) To ensure that all children with critical medical needs have medication in school in particular when going on school trips or offsite.

11) To ensure all medication submitted by parents is logged in and is administered by teachers, witnessed and recorded in the Master Medical Folder, monitoring this regularly and reporting (in a timely way) any concerns or unacceptable practice.

12) To monitor the medication kept in school, ensuring appropriate paperwork is in place and medicine is within its expiry date.

13) To prepare a termly report for the Governors that summarises the accidents that have occurred in school and present any solutions/next steps.

14) To notify the Safeguarding Lead/s (DSLs) immediately if any unusual marks, bruising etc. are observed; so that any possibility of “non-accidental injury” may be investigated immediately.

15) Writing, maintaining and keeping Care Plans up to date

16) Collect medication AM, whenever necessary

Senior Lunchtime Supervisor - Role & Responsibilities

1) To ensure the safety of all children, young people and vulnerable adults within the School. To complete the annual Safeguarding training and understand and comply with all Safeguarding policies and practices.

2) To be alert and look around the playground at all times to ensure that children are not playing roughly or so that you can see if a child is injured and needs help.

3) To ring the bell and whistle to draw attention to the end of playtimes for lining up for dinner.

4) To hold a valid First Aid certificate.

5) To attend to injured children.

6) To be mindful of health & safety issues and report any safeguarding concerns.
