College Central is a ‘Good’ county wide Pupils Referral Unit with multiple sites across East Sussex. It provides education to young people with who have been, or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream school. A Senior Mentor position is required for College Central's site in Eastbourne (Brodrick Road in Hampden Park). College Central is currently undergoing a review and this role is aimed at maintaining strong pastoral and mentoring support and ensuring pupils social, emotional and mental health needs are met.

As the Senior Mentor at Eastbourne, you will be operating as part of the sites safeguarding teams and you will have supporting role in the pastoral systems of the school. Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, you work with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils who may display difficult and very challenging behaviours. You will help a caseload of pupils to improve their attendance and engagement, support their welfare and wellbeing, and enable them to progress and reintegrate into mainstream settings. You would act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), be the first point of contact for matters of attendance and individual pupil needs for your caseload and contribute to develop a culture of purposeful mentoring.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic, compassionate and supportive person with interest in mentoring, coaching and support. They will be pupil focussed, and able to communicate key information both in person and via electronic communication. They will be sensitive, considerate and passionate about addressing the underlying needs of vulnerable pupils and committed to securing the best possible outcomes for College Central pupils.
