We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to support our friendly and successful Science Department. The successful candidate will manage and lead the technical support for our Science Curriculum and the provision of effective practical lessons, experiments and demonstrations. This post is critical in ensuring that pupils can access a rigorous science curriculum rooted in practice as well as theory.

The post holder will be required to work closely with the Head of Science but will also need to initiate and manage effective work practices within the science support team. Further information is contained within the Candidate Pack available on our website

The role will include:

·       Being responsible to the Head of Science for the maintenance and upkeep of the Science Laboratories

·       Ensuring that health and safety is at the forefront of all planning and implementation of practical work.

·       To manage the standards of work of other laboratory staff

·       Supervising the conduct and personal development of other science technician staff

·       Preparation and supervision of specialist equipment for lessons.

·       Constructing and modifying specialist apparatus.

·       Taking an active part in demonstrations and episodes of teaching that will include supporting practical classes.

·       Maintaining a safe working environment including the completion of risk assessments.

·       Ordering and maintaining resources.

The Science Department also delivers Animal Care BTEC and oversees the management of the College Farm. Knowledge relevant to the welfare of animals would be an advantage.

The post is available from September, or an earlier start date would be possible if the successful candidate is available to start before then.

The usual working pattern will be Monday to Friday, ideally from 8.30am – to 3.30pm which allows for a 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
