‘Staff are enthusiastic in their praise for the schools partnership work and they say it is having a positive effect on their work’ Ofsted 2018

George Pindar is a community school on a positive and sustained journey and we are located on the edge of Scarborough which makes us easily accessible for York, Driffield and most parts of the East Riding.

Our staff are our greatest resource and we are proud to be a host school to Teach First, Ambition School Leadership and Chartered College of Teaching. Staff who have relocated or who have entered teaching through all routes have stayed with us – and for us that is a sign of a school on the up! The same is true of our support staff with many gaining internal promotion as well as going onto a career in teaching.

Are you a University student who has recently graduated or a support colleague looking for a new challenge? We have the perfect position for you if your specialism is Science...

We are looking to appoint a passionate and motivated Senior Science Technician to provide technical support and assistance to our busy Science Faculty. Our Technicians play a key role in the smooth day to day running of our Faculties so it is essential that our successful candidate is confident in providing technical assistance and student support in a classroom environment within this subject area.

What we are looking for in our successful Technician:

  • An academic qualification, at least to A Level but preferably to Degree level, within the Science remit
  • If not an academic qualification, then experience working within a Science-related role would certainly be sufficient
  • Practical experience within a school environment would be advantageous
  • Good organisation and communication skills
  • The ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently

What we can offer in return:

  • An excellent opportunity for those strongly considering a career in teaching as training routes may be made available in the future
  • The opportunity to work within a Faculty where our teaching staff are incredibly passionate about their subject area
  • The opportunity for training and development

Duties will include setting up equipment in a laboratory environment for practical lessons, the safe disposal of chemicals, responsibility for ionisation and radioactive materials, stock taking, retrieving and putting away equipment along with any other duties deemed necessary by the Faculty. Ideally, candidates should possess a good working knowledge of COSHH & CLEAPSS in order to maintain compliance with Health and Safety Regulations at the school.

Join our school and make a real difference to our students, your career in an area that offers so much! To arrange a visit please contact James on the details below.

George Pindar School is part of the North Yorkshire Opportunity Area agenda that is a true partnership between the Local Authority, NYBEP, schools, colleges and local employers to improve the life chances of our children and young people on the Coast.

The date of commencement for this post will be as soon as possible.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response. All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

George Pindar School is situated on the south-side of the seaside town of Scarborough, surrounded by the Yorkshire Wolds and Moors.

Curriculum:
We have a curriculum for success, which supports our students on one of three learning pathways.  Each pathway is designed to provide stretch and challenge as well as support where it is needed.  For example, our middle pathway allows students to follow a balanced curriculum of GCSEs with some high value vocational qualifications, but has additional literacy and numeracy support built in.

As a result, our students are enthusiastic,  respond well to staff and are  increasingly successful.

Learning:
Learning is central to all we do and we expect all our students to progress well as a result of effective and engaging teaching.  A key aspect of any Head of Faculty’s role is working with their colleagues to ensure that learning in their area is as good as it can be.

CPD:
We believe it is essential to invest in the development of staff.  While we offer the opportunity to participate in specialist external CPD, we are increasingly focused on sharing best practice within school via our Teaching and Learning Group and our Coaching initiative.  We believe this is the key to ensuring everyone plays a part in the school’s success and development.
