Job overview

Balshaw’s Church of England High School has undergone significant physical redevelopment to modernise the environment and is looking for an individual with practical and strategic skills to provide outstanding support within our site supervision team and the wider resource management of the school to maintain the excellent standard of site care and maintenance.

The successful candidate will work alongside an existing site supervisor working at the same grade. The roles are structured such that there is an early shift and a later shift. The early shift is undertaken by our existing site supervisor (6.00am – 2.00pm) who also manages our in-house cleaning team. The later shift crosses over with the early shift and will typically be 10.00am – 6.00pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break. However flexibility is required as school will need site supervisor support for various school events, and also to accommodate staff holidays. The work is a mix of planned daily activities, responding to equipment breakdowns and other urgent matters, and supporting the school in preparing for events. The overriding priority is to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff and maintaining the site to an excellent standard is fundamental to achieving this.

The school has developed a Resources Hub which is a centre for staff and students to report ICT and Resources issues. Our Resource Hub co-ordinator will work with both site supervisors to ensure work is properly and effectively prioritised. The site team has use of a large workshop and storage area as well as an office with a computer for administrative tasks.

The site supervision team is line managed by the Business Manager and there are regular operational meetings to review work completed and plan future work.

As a site supervisor, you will be the face of site maintenance delivering an outstanding service that ensures that the school environment is presented in an outstanding condition which supports the ability of teaching staff to deliver outstanding learning experiences to our students. You will see the skills we require to do this in the Person Specification overleaf. Above all, we are looking for a highly motivated team player with a can-do attitude to work alongside our existing site supervisor.  Strong team working skills are critical to this role.

The closing date is midnight on Thursday 29th November 2018

Please note that the school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The school also expects its employees to be in sympathy with the Christian ethos of Balshaw’s. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.

About Balshaw's Church Of England High School

Balshaw’s is a mixed, comprehensive, Church of England secondary school without sixth form situated in Leyland, Lancashire. It is a community state school operating under the Diocese of Blackburn. An average-sized school, it will provide 925 places for students aged 11-16, when fully subscribed.

Balshaw's was founded as a charity school in Leyland in June 1782 by Richard Balshaw. It moved to its current Church Road site in September 1932. Although the school has no official sixth-form, it works closely with nearby Runshaw College, which was originally set up in 1974 to cater for school-leavers from Balshaw's and Parklands High School.

Values and Vision

Richard Balshaw wanted the school to be a supportive and inclusive place that benefited the whole child, and his view remains important today. The school has high expectations of pupils and aims for excellence, at the same time as upholding its Christian faith and creating healthy working relationships with parents and local churches, businesses, industries and the community. Balshaw's motto “Non sibi sed aliis”, which translates as “not for ourselves but for others”, reflects the selfless and tolerant nature of the school .

Ofsted

"Leaders are ambitious for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils know that their teachers have high standards for their academic achievement and their behaviour. The majority of pupils work hard to rise to these expectations. They behave responsibly and they achieve well. The atmosphere around school is calm and respectful.  Pupils feel safe.  Leaders and governors share a clear vison for the quality of education."
