Job overview

The SEND Specialist Advice and Support, within Integrated Services for Learning (ISL), works with children and young people with a range of special and complex needs. These include autism and other communication difficulties, sensory and physical impairments, specific learning difficulties and also those who require educational support for medical absence.

We currently have a vacancy for a teacher of visual impairment within this highly skilled and multi-professional service.

You will be a qualified teacher responsible for advising adults working with children and young people who are vision impaired and for maintaining high quality standards and excellent practice. Your caseload will include some severely sight-impaired and tactile learners so some direct teaching and knowledge of braille will be required. You will preferably hold the mandatory qualification to teach vision impaired children (QTVI) but experienced applicants prepared to undertake the diploma will also be considered.

You will be based at Apsley in Hemel Hempstead and you will work across Hertfordshire in schools, homes and other educational settings. You will enjoy working with dedicated and talented colleagues who make a positive difference to the lives of children with vision impairment and their families.

Due to the nature of this role you will required to travel, therefore a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential and most of your caseload will be in the south and west of the county.

We can offer you a friendly, supportive working environment, a full induction and ongoing professional development.

Closing date: 5th February 2019.
Interview date: 15th February 2019

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Emma Dudley on emma.dudley@hertfordshire.gov.uk or 01992 556018.
