Job overview

The Integrated therapies team provides high quality, evidence-based assessment and intervention to high needs students and teaching/pastoral teams throughout the college group. This includes Mainstream courses, Foundation Learning and The Aurora provision. We are a team of Occupational Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support and Speech and Language Therapy.

The Aurora provision at Merton College is a non-residential further education centre for young adults from 16-25 years old. Learners have moderate to severe learning disabilities and may have Autism, behaviours of concern or complex support needs.

As a College, we believe that young adults should be respected and have their individual choices, needs and aspirations reflected in the educational opportunities made available to them. We encourage independence in all our learners and support them to achieve their full potential through a varied curriculum to develop skills in living, work, community and communication.

As our Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a vital role in supporting learners to access the curriculum of their choice. You will be supporting students and the teaching teams to manage their communication, social and behavioural strengths and needs in a range of different environmental settings. You will carry out holistic Speech and Language therapy assessments and person-centred interventions that will support the learners to access and develop their Functional Skills across the curriculum.

As a member of the Health and Care Professional Council, you will hold a Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and have recent experience of effectively managing a caseload of young adults with a wide range of learning difficulties. You will be able to devise and implement evidence based intervention for learners with different communication profiles and have experience of writing assessment reports for a wide audience. We’d also like you to have knowledge of a range of AAC, specialist teaching & learning strategies and specific communication strategies for this client group and have experience of assessing learners with Learning Disabilities and Autism.

We value growth, innovation, and the nurturing of professional expertise. As a member of the Integrated therapies team, you will have access to regular supervision, internal and external CPD opportunities.

Closing date for the return of an online application form is 23rd December 2021

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 37 plus up to 7 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. This leave is all in addition to Bank Holiday entitlement. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
