Job overview

STEM Leader and teacher of Physics

Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR 2b (£4,532)

Contract: Permanent, full time

Start date: September 2019

Closing date: 12 noon, Thursday 25th April 2019

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Science teacher to lead on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics across the school and in liaison with other schools in the area. The ability to teach Physics up to A level is essential.

The Science department is housed in a beautiful new building of 14 bespoke laboratories and is staffed by a team of energetic, dedicated and resourceful professionals who are very supportive of each other.  The Maths department is housed in a separate block, and the Art, Design and Technology department (which includes Engineering) is housed in another separate area.

Prince William School is located in Oundle, within easy commuting distance of Peterborough, Stamford, Kettering, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, and Corby.  It is a vibrant and friendly school which strives to deliver the challenging and inspirational curriculum our students need to prepare them for the ever-changing world of work. We have high expectations for all, and our aim is simple: to be the best school in Northamptonshire and beyond for every student, no matter what their ability or aspirations.

Our students are well behaved, happy, engaging, and inquisitive individuals, who are proud to be Prince William students.  We are passionate about providing them with the best possible education, and they have high aspirations for themselves and look to us to guide them on their journey to adult life.

This is an exciting time to be joining the school as examination results have seen rapid improvement in the last two years.  In 2018, 67% achieved grade 4+ in both English and Maths, 45% achieved grade 5+ in both English and Maths, and our Progress 8 score was +0.31, with the gap between disadvantaged and other students closing by 0.45 grade compared with 2017, despite that gap widening nationally.

The successful applicant will be passionate about inspiring students to get involved with STEM subjects, able to liaise between departments within the school and between schools in the area, and develop engaging STEM-focussed days involving students from various schools.  They must also be a successful, enthusiastic Science teacher who can teach Physics up to A level.

Thank you for visiting our profile and I’m delighted to welcome you to Prince William School, part of the East Midlands Academy Trust community of schools.

The EMAT vision is “every child deserves to be the best they can be” and we wholeheartedly believe in this vision of providing the best education for each and every one of our young people.

Our curriculum is well-sequenced, aspirational for all and has excellent teaching and behaviour at its foundation. We ensure that we develop the character in our young people to make the right decisions, at the right time, for the right reason, even when no one is watching.

At both GCSE and A level, our outcomes are very strong, and Ofsted recognise that our school is a “calm and friendly place” where our students “enjoy school, feel safe and are happy” and “respect staff”.

Our commitment to a wider curriculum goes beyond the classroom and we have an excellent range of leadership and enrichment opportunities for all students at all ages that stretch their social and emotional skills.  The careers provision at Prince Williams School is exceptional; it is tailored to each individual student with a one-to-one meeting with our dedicated career adviser in Key Stage 3 and in Key Stage 4. The RSE curriculum allows our students to express their thoughts on a range of challenging topics and encourages them to develop their oracy and articulation skills to become confident in expressing themselves verbally.

We are fully committed to safeguarding our young people and all decisions are made with a lens of safeguarding their wellbeing. We are an inclusive school and our behaviour system is simple and straightforward for all to understand, allowing teachers to focus on the quality of teaching and deliver excellent learning opportunities.

I am incredibly proud to be the headteacher of PWS and, with an open-door culture, welcome any questions or queries. As a community, we will work collaboratively to find solutions and overcome any barriers that any of our young people have to fulfilling their incredible potential.

Anna Hewes

Headteacher
