Contract type: Full Time
Salary: 19873 to 20297
Contract term: Permanent

The Board is looking to appoint a STEM technician to join our growing team from September.  The successful candidate's role will be to work with our Science and Design & Technology Departments to provide technical support for practical lessons, ensuring that resources and equipment and areas in Science, DT and creative arts are suitably maintained and fit for purpose.  Importantly, the technician's role will also be to provide assistance and practical advice to pupils using knowledge of modern technologies such as robotics, electronics, coding or smart materials.  They will support the learning and teaching activities working closely with staff and pupils.   The post holder will also be responsible to the Science Lead Teacher for an agreed level of expenditure and for maintaining budget information.

The Kingston Academy is a new Free Secondary School in North Kingston, which opened for the first time in September 2015 with a cohort of Year 7 pupils.  The school will grow annually by an additional year group until 2021.  TKA has received a substantial capital grant for the refurbishment of the existing educational facilities and for additional new modern buildings. Our mission is to provide a world-class education for all the young people within our community to ensure that every pupil is safe, happy and succeeds.  In Autumn 2017, the beginning of our third year of operation, we have over 500 pupils across the three year groups of 7, 8 and 9.

This role would be well suited to a science graduate who is considering entering the teaching profession in the future.

Assessment Process

Our selection procedure will aim to identify with rigour whether the candidate fulfills the requirements of the post and will include the consideration of the candidate’s suitability to work with children and young people.  The process will include:

  • Carrying out a STEM related preparation task;
  • Meeting with a panel of our pupils for informal question and answer session;
  • Written safeguarding exercise;
  • Interview with Subject Lead and Head Teacher.

We look forward to receiving your application.
