  • They will develop and implement the College’s Student Experience Strategy including the calendar of events. 
  • The post holder will maintain a highly visible presence across all the curriculum areas, at both campuses, encouraging, supporting and leading by example to inspire a sense of responsibility and community in our learners and enhance their overall college experience in support of the college's Vision and Values.
  • This role is based at both Middleton and Rochdale Campus.


Key Responsibilities

  • To work with the Careers & Employability Lead and Student Experience Manager to develop, coordinate and supervise a calendar of events cross college to raise aspirations and enhance the student experience of learners.
  •  Provide a range of activities throughout the learner journey from enrolment through to supporting progression, including 1:1, group work, workshops, and events planned through a central calendar of events which acknowledges national and international themes, days, weeks and college events.
  • To collaboratively develop, co-ordinate and support a programme of cross college student experience activities to support the development of interpersonal skills for learners including focus weeks, learner voice events, focus groups and PACE sessions. 
  • Regularly review the impact of all activities to ensure they are supporting with the embedding of Gatsby Benchmarks and having a positive impact on student experience at HHC. Utilising the six strands of the CDI framework and the Compass evaluation tool to evaluate activities and to shape the Student Experience Strategy and draft and create an annual report on Student Experience for SLT and Governors.
  • To support the development and organisation of the Student Governors, Learner Ambassadors and reps within the college ensuring that effective communication and consultation mechanisms exist between learners and the Wider Management Team. 
  • To work as part of the Quality team collaboratively with other internal and external partners to develop a coherent approach to employability and leadership development and learner voice by proactively encouraging learners to develop themselves by being a positive and visible influence in and around the college campus. This will include holding focus groups with learners as part of the quality assurance process for teaching and learning i.e. Deep dives.
  • Formalise the learner voice programme and build positive relationships with learners and provide them with support to develop their interpersonal skills to enable them to advocate their views, opinions, and needs. Plan and coordinate the learner rep meetings, Principal Question Time and Meet the Principal events.
  • Work with the Programme Managers and the Progress Tutors to monitor and regularly review take up of extra curricula activities that develop learners' skills and abilities such as First Aid, NCS and DoE. This will also include liaising with these external partners.
  • In conjunction with the Personal and Social Development Co Ordinator, be alert to general on course support issues based on the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: related activities and campaigns that build students awareness and resilience and promote participation.
  • Identify barriers to participation, support needs, safeguarding and welfare concerns and work with Safeguarding and Welfare team to provide support.
  • To assist with general learner activities including open evenings and enrolments, support wider college teams as and when required.
  • Undertake training and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) required for the role
  • Other duties, of a similar level of responsibility, as may be required.

Hopwood Hall College is a further education college located in Rochdale, Greater Manchester. The college was first established in 1992, and since its founding has seen extensive redevelopment and modernisation, including the installation of a brand-new technology centre in 2012 which provides facilities for studying motor vehicle maintenance, engineering and brickwork. Although the college had previously contained its own sixth form centre, since 2010 Hopwood Hall has concentrated solely on vocational qualifications for school leavers, along with its extensive adult-education programmes. The college occupies two main sites, located close by to each other in Greater Manchester, each providing a range of high-quality teaching facilities.

Values and Vision

Hopwood Hall College offers a huge range of subjects from entry-level courses up to foundation degrees, with part-time provision available for adult students looking to pursue their qualifications while working. In terms of younger students, Hopwood Hall begins accepting students at age 14, providing entry-level vocational qualifications and, potentially, apprenticeships for Key Stage 4 pupils looking to study outside of school. We have a purpose-built Salon, Restaurant and Technology Centre as well as extensive Sports and Animal Care facilities. Outside of study, the college also works hard to foster a sense of community among its students, playing host to a range of recreational common areas for students to relax and socialise.

They have established good links with community groups to engage with learners who have not participated in education and training for some time. These learners benefit from the development of their essential English and mathematical skills, including English for speakers of other languages; they are progressing to further study and/or employment.”
