Job overview

Our opportunity

We wish to appoint a Student Support Manager to deliver an effective learning support to students across the Sixth Form.

Longley Park Sixth Form is a 16-19 Academy and proud to be part of the Brigantia Learning Trust. Based in North East Sheffield, Brigantia Learning Trust provides 2-19+ learning pathways for local children and young people with an ethos of high expectations and support. We are especially proud of our diverse and inclusive learning environment. Longley Park is a melting pot of ideas, beliefs, cultures and languages – just like the world. It’s a perfect example of the great ideas that can come to life when we listen to each other, share opinions and work together.

Students’ individuality and aspirations are just as important to us as academic success, which is why we foster their personal curiosity and creativity.

Core duties of the role will include the line management of the Student Support team and Access Arrangements Co-Ordinator,  responsibility  for the Performance Management and Review of Student Support Workers, support and challenge them to provide outstanding support for students, identify development and support needs, and facilitate appropriate training, agree support plans for individual students, including in-class and one-to-one support, manage records for high-needs students funded by Sheffield City Council, ensuring records of student support and progress are accurate and timely and to ensure student take-up of support is monitored and concerns about attendance followed up effectively.

Ideally the successful candidate will hold a specialist qualification in areas such as student support, mentoring, counselling or guidance or the equivalent of this, and must have a sound knowledge of the 14-19 curriculum and experience of working with young people in a supportive role.

It is desirable for candidates to have 2 years’ experience in a similar or related role.  Candidates must be IT literate, have excellent organisational, time-management and communication skills and be committed to providing quality customer service and solution focussed.

Longley Park Sixth Form is an ambitious and successful 16-19 Academy based in North East Sheffield and part of Brigantia Learning Trust.

Offering A Level and vocational programmes from Level 1 to 3, we offer a genuinely inclusive curriculum, supporting students to realise their aspirations and achieve remarkable outcomes.  We are especially proud of our diverse and inclusive learning environment, one which promotes challenge, independence and individuality.

Our expectations reflect our commitment to seeing our diverse cohort of learners flourish as hardworking, respectful and successful young people. The Academy has invested significantly in facilities to support student independence and ownership of learning. Students are challenged and supported to develop the skills they need to thrive in the future, which is reflected in the wide ranging destinations taken by our students at the end of study.

Our status as a Google Sixth Form allows us to work collaboratively with colleagues and students alike and we remain at the forefront of online learning technologies. Professional Development is valued and we actively encourage staff to participate and lead events to support colleagues both within the Sixth Form and the wider Trust. As a member of Brigantia Learning Trust we welcome opportunities for cross-phase collaboration to support student transition and the provision of an outstanding 2-19 learning experience.

We believe in what we do – because the way we teach our students should be as unique as they are. We know this vision requires something extra. If you share our values we would love to hear from you.
