Peter Symonds is located in Winchester.  It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Our unofficial College motto has long been ‘Counting in Ones’ and we work hard to make this a supportive and friendly place to study, with every student treated as an individual. Not only is this at the heart of our work with our students, but we also strive to support and value our staff in the same way.

Our busy Student Services Department provides a resource for students on a day to day basis. Some of these services are routine, such as the allocation of lockers, while others are more complex as the team is often the first point of contact for students with a wide range of queries. We are looking for someone to join the team to help cover the busy break and lunch periods, staffing the front desk and responding to enquiries. You will also help run and promote events organised by and for the students. Hours of work are 17.5 per week and term time only, from 10.45 am to 2.15 pm Monday to Friday.

You will have empathy with the 16 – 19 age group, excellent communication and listening skills. You will be able to work under pressure in what can be a lively and noisy common room environment, having good IT and administrative skills. Experience in working with this age group is an advantage but is not essential.

Closing date:  12 noon on 23 October 2019

Interview date: Wednesday 6 November 2019

More details and information on how to apply are available on our website at www.psc.ac.uk  under Staff Vacancies. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number 48/19.

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.

Values and vision

'Counting in Ones' is our motto and is the key principle which guides everything we do. Value added is good and the large majority of our students progress to higher education, many to Russell Group universities. A large number of our students each year, usually around fifty, are able to secure places at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Pastoral support is well resourced and students also benefit from an unusual range of music, sporting and other enrichment opportunities.

Ofsted

Leadership and management are excellent and staff at all levels share a commitment to achieving the best for individual students. Managers and teachers are reflective and self-critical. Quality assurance procedures are highly effective in promoting continuous improvement.”
