Job overview

Budmouth Academy is a large 11-18 school situated on the Jurassic Coast and a member of the Aspirations Academies Trust. We require a well-qualified and deeply enthusiastic teacher of PSHE, Ethics and Philosophy to lead an established department to ensure the progression and wellbeing of our students. In our ‘Schools within Schools’ structure this post has both academic and pastoral responsibilities and offers an excellent progression to Assistant Principal level posts.

The department has seen an increasing uptake of GCSE and A level students choosing to study Religious studies and the successful candidate will aspire to continue this trend. As such the ability to lead, teach and market the subject within our consistently oversubscribed 6th Form of 350 students is seen as a priority. Additionally our current team offers a range of extra-curricular support sessions to ensure students reach their full potential and sharing this ethic will be a key attribute of the postholder.

Candidates must be able to teach across the ability and age range, supporting Religious studies and PSHE to the highest standards for all pupils at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5. This post would suit a teacher with experience, you might already be leading your own department in a smaller school and feel ready for a new leadership challenge or be looking for the next career progression after demonstrating sustained outstanding classroom practice. Your professional development is important to us, there are highly supportive CPD opportunities available during your time at the school which will include working with colleagues in other trust schools. Delivering high quality teaching and learning is our priority; we want every lesson to engage and challenge our students so that they get the very best out of their classroom experience.

We are committed to self-improvement and self-reflection and our team of Lead Practitioners train and support our teachers in becoming expert practitioners. Budmouth Academy operates an easy to follow and centralised behaviour system because we want our staff to focus their time helping students to learn and inspiring them in their next steps. We adopt a sensible approach to workload and strategies such as whole class feedback play an important part in this. We also work in a G Suite environment and Google Classroom has become a very important tool in our approach to learning from home.

Interview Date: 23rd or 24th May 2024

Your professional development is important to us, we offer a comprehensive package of CPD opportunities, including nationally recognised qualifications that suit all types of career progression.

These are widely available, free of charge through the ALI (the Aspirations Learning Institute) at all of the Aspirations Academy schools. The subject coordinator for Religious studies is a vital member of the Academy’s leadership team. In addition, Budmouth has its very own Well-being Charter and working group, as we genuinely prioritise the well-being of our staff.

Budmouth Academy Weymouth is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check. We value the diversity of our workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
