We have an exciting opportunity for a Subject Leader of PE to be responsible for leading the department from September 2024. The ideal candidate should be able to teach a variety of sports and disciplines. The school recognises the importance of delivering PE to students in KS3 and KS4 and the teachers contribute to the delivery of PE provision in the Primary and Sixth Form phases. The department offers both GCSE PE and the Cambridge National Sports Studies qualifications so experience of teaching to this level is essential.  The Subject Leader of PE will share our commitment to providing the very best educational opportunities in all aspects of school life for our students.  


This is a key leadership position where you will work directly with other subject leaders, the wider pastoral team and extended leadership team. You will lead, manage and effectively deploy staff and resources within the PE department, monitor and evaluate the development of teaching and learning strategies for students, and ensure that staff are provided with relevant information and training relating to the support of their students.


The successful candidate should be an inspirational leader with a proven track record of delivering strong practice and raising standards in PE; they will be a committed and flexible leader who can inspire others to raise aspirations through an ambitious and inclusive curriculum.

William Hulme’s Grammar School is the second most over-subscribed school in Manchester and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1450 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

The Academy has a relatively new Sixth Form Centre, a two-form entry Primary Phase and has specialist rooms in the Secondary Phase, including fully equipped science labs, a library, ICT resource centre, music practice rooms, design, technology and art rooms.  There is also a sports hall with changing facilities, along with full kitchen and dining facilities in the Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.
