About Kerr Mackie Primary School

Kerr Mackie is a large primary school with 473 pupils aged between 3 and 11, located in Roundhay, north Leeds. The school serves a diverse community with approximately half of the pupils being of Asian or Asian British backgrounds. We are proud to provide a happy, caring, child centred environment, celebrating different cultures whilst ensuring excellent learning is being delivered to all our pupils.

Whether working to close this gap, or in pushing our more gifted children to fulfil their potential, we are guided by the same strong belief that learning is a partnership between parent and carers, child and school. We aim to create a caring, open and collaborative environment where trust is mutual and children are treated responsibly and their views are listened to with respect. It is in this environment that teaching is at its most exciting and challenging and our staff and pupils are at their creative best.

At Kerr Mackie we recognise that all adults and children are learners and we seek to develop our understanding and use of the very best in educational theory and practice.  We place an emphasis on immersive learning techniques, including project based learning, to stimulate and develop critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills and always look to create and innovate in our thinking and learning. We also understand the needs of our cohort ensuring that appropriate, personalised support is given to all our pupils, particularly those pupils in the early stages of speaking English.

Visitors to our school are struck by our vibrant learning spaces, used effectively by a dynamic, reflective and committed team of staff who put children at the heart of everything they do. We deliver an enhanced curriculum so everyone is enriched and inspired by memorable experiences which includes visits, extra-curricular clubs, and collaborations with other organisations and partners. For example, we benefit from a strong relationship with Roundhay School, an All Through School providing opportunities for joint curriculum projects and access to excellent sports facilities and grounds.
