Job overview

St Paul’s Catholic Secondary College is seeking a full time temporary farm assistant. This rewarding role supports our teaching staff who deliver Primary Industries and Agriculture programs to our students at our Francis Farm Trade Skills Centre. The position is for the remainder of the 2020 school year and may be extended depending upon the abilities of the applicant. 


The Francis Farm is set on 105 hectares and is located in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales. The farm has a number of enterprises that require the services of a competent and innovative farm assistant. There is a great deal of scope for you to bring your knowledge, skill and creative flair to the role.

We are seeking applications from candidates with an excellent work experience history, high level of integrity, experience, motivation and interest in agriculture for the position of:

TEACHER ASSISTANT – FARM HAND

Ordinary Hours: 38 hrs per week, five days per week, until the end of the 2020 school year.

Some weekend work will be required and will be compensated by time in lieu.


Successful applicant must

 be willing to support the Catholic ethos of the College.

 have a current NSW Working with Children Check Essential selection criteria

 Demonstrated farming experience. A combination of some or all of the following tasks will be highly regarded

o Fencing: Conventional and Electric- Pasture production

o Vegetable production

o Livestock experience: Cattle, pigs, poultry, bees. (husbandry, management and welfare)

 Demonstrated effective communication skills, including oral, written and basic computing skill; email, spreadsheets, word applications.

 Ability to work unsupervised or in a team as required, effectively problem solve, work on weekend rotations, work with young people, be physically fit, well presented, organised and punctual.

 Driver’s license, (manual car & good driving record) 


Desirable selection criteria

 Ability to weld and fabricate, maintain farm water supply, machinery/small plant.

 Understanding of regenerative farming techniques

 Current Farm Chemical Users certification and MR driver’s license

St Paul's College is a Catholic co-educational systemic school located in West Kempsey in the Macleay Valley of NSW, and caters for students from Year 7 to Year 12. 

Established in 1980, the school was originally two separate high schools which merged together to form what was then called Macleay Regional Catholic High School. In 1985 the name changed for the last time to what it is known as today.

The school's campus features modern buildings with modern interiors that includes specialised science labs, food technology facilities, metal and timber work rooms, new visual arts studios, a drama hall and dedicated agriculture and IT rooms. Curriculum

In the early years at St Paul's, the students curriculum is centrally focused arounds key subjects such as Maths, English, Health and Sciences. Specialised electives are then offered to the older students to further develop their skills. These include; Multimedia Studies, Agriculture, Food Technology, Textiles, Timber, Metal and Languages. Religious Education and faith development is central to the students at St Paul's, with every student taking an active role in the subject throughout all years.
