The Post

UWCSEA has a vacancy for August 2019 at its Dover Campus for a Teacher / Head of Grade in Early Years (ages 4-7).

Person specification

  • An early childhood degree and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
  • Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service
  • Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support school policies and practices, working collaboratively with Grade Heads and the Principal, to achieve set goals
  • Lead the grade team, driven by the guiding statements of the College, to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment
  • Plan and implement learning experiences that appropriately challenge each individual child
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents via a range of communication channels and keep a child centred digital portfolio for each child containing examples of teacher and child selected work
  • Support, and at times facilitate, Professional Learning by maintaining a dialogue with team members regarding pedagogical, curriculum and instructional needs within the grade
  • Lead with positive influence by implementing evidence based early years practice, working collaboratively to plan and share resources
  • Coordinate with parents and other staff members to meet identified needs of students within the grade
  • Attend all relevant grade, school, college level and other meetings as required
