THE VACANCY

Bloxham School is seeking to appoint an inspirational Teacher of Academic PE with excellent subject knowledge, the ability to engage students in their learning and an evident love of the subject. Applications would be welcome from recently qualified or experienced teachers and may suit candidates with a sports science, science or PE background.

The successful candidate will be teaching full-time. There will be an expectation to take part in the Broader Curriculum, pastoral programme and the sporting life of the school.

 

 PE AT BLOXHAM SCHOOL

The PE Department at Bloxham School has academic ambition and continues to achieve excellent results. We have a strong collaborative ethos and a desire to develop students as critical thinkers and independent learners.

The successful candidate will be academically demanding of their students, ambitious in their teaching and keen to collaborate with colleagues on developing learning which is an enriching experience for all. There are always opportunities to extend the learning outside the classroom.

PE is a very popular subject at both GCSE and post-16. The successful candidate will be expected to teach: Key Stage Five - we follow the OCR A-Level course as well as the BTEC National Extended Certificate PE course. Key Stage Four - we follow the OCR course.

The department members have a great love of the subject which is shared with our pupils, and the aim is to make the subject interesting, relevant and engaging for all. The new Teacher of Academic PE will need to be equally enthusiastic and be keen to foster this passion for the subject in their students.

We are a school that aims to educate the whole person and a willingness to play a full part, both pastorally and in the extracurricular life of a boarding school is essential. We would welcome applicants from both the state and independent sectors. Applications are welcome from those practitioners who can demonstrate a successful record of inspiring students through innovative and dynamic teaching. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

·     To be an inspirational teacher of Academic PE; to model excellence in ensuring enthusiasm for the subject and leading to high value-added results for students in external examinations.

·     To contribute to curriculum development to ensure both knowledge and skill acquisition.

·     To prepare dynamic and engaging lessons in line with the curriculum and prepare and explain independent learning exercises that will further expand skills and topic knowledge.

·     To mark and provide clear and concise feedback on completed work in a timely and formative fashion, which leads to student improvement.

·     To follow the department’s assessment, reporting and tracking procedures relating to students’ attainment, progress and achievement, and use information to inform teaching.

·     To contribute to the wider professional responsibilities of the department, including working closely with colleagues to support student progress and attainment, attending meetings and following the department’s policies and procedures.

·     To participate in the pastoral, broader curriculum and sports programme.

·     To participate in the school CPD Programme and to engage in updating professional knowledge and expertise where appropriate, including subject knowledge and teaching methods.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION

 Essential Criteria

•     Excellent academic qualifications (including a sport degree or a closely related subject and PGCE qualified or equivalent).

•     Experience of teaching Academic PE to KS4 and KS5 Experience of teaching BTEC PE would be a distinct advantage.

•     A passionate and innovative approach to student learning, and the ability to stretch our brightest students whilst engaging students of all abilities and raising attainment for all.

•     The ability to develop a strong positive rapport with students.

•     Good classroom management which promotes student learning.

•     Confident user of IT to enhance learning both within and outside the classroom.

•     A commitment to continued professional development and to the development of classroom pedagogy.

•     To be in alignment with the ethos of Bloxham School, including a commitment to the broader curriculum.

•     A high level communicator with the skills and ability to work with colleagues as part of a team and to liaise with pupils, parents, teachers and support staff.

•     A well-organised and self-motivated individual.

The post holder’s responsibility will include promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/ he comes into contact.
