Job overview

Part-time (0.4)

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding practitioner and enthusiastic Teacher, with the ability to deliver Art and Design across all Key Stages. Ideally, you will have subject specialist knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Digital Art (Animation and/or Film), Printmaking, Ceramics, and/or Sculpture.

The Department

The Art Department at Heathfield is flourishing. There is a long history of girls studying and succeeding, for examples within the areas of Fine Art, Textiles, Ceramics, and Illustration; many girls take GCSE, A-Level Art and Design and a large number choose to combine these qualifications with those in Photography, and History of Art, which are also popular choices. Several girls go on to Foundation Courses and Degree Course in Art-related subjects at many prestigious national and international art schools. The Art Department consists of a fine art room, a ceramics room with kiln, a textiles room with a designated pattern cutting area and sewing room, and a suite of computers.

Our Art Department has an excellent reputation both nationally and internationally, and seeks to appoint a candidate who is able to uphold and contribute to its extremely high standards. We require a team player with the vision and motivation to maximise student potential.

The School

Heathfield is an all girls’ boarding and day school, providing our girls with a first class education in beautiful surroundings, with a level of continuity of care and pastoral support, which we believe, is unrivalled. We offer opportunities that would otherwise be difficult for girls to access, with a wide weekend programme designed to stimulate our girls and to provide them with a release for both their physical and creative energies.

Set in 35 acres, the School is 50 minutes from London by train, 25 minutes from Heathrow and 20 minutes from Reading by car. The facilities and grounds are what one would expect from a School of this standing.

One of the School's great strengths is the fact that, because of its size, (190 girls aged 11-18), we are able to concentrate on individual achievement. We have consistently high GCSE and ‘A’ level results and all girls go on to higher education, including Oxbridge. Because of our size, every girl is known to each other and to each member of staff.

Values and Vision

The School’s motto is, “The Merit of One is the Honour of All”. The students at Heathfield School are encouraged to fulfil their goals, to have confidence and to be respectful of others. The girls are taught that they are equals in the world and can achieve anything they set their mind to. Parents should be a part of their children’s academic life.  The girls will make friends for life and become a part of the local community.

Heathfield is a dynamic and busy day, weekly and full boarding community where girls thrive. We provide an environment where a girl’s childhood will be happy and secure; where every girl discovers her own unique passions and talents and accordingly, develops the confidence and self-belief to enable her to succeed.

In our latest Inspection, the school achieved ‘Excellent in all categories’. The inspectors found that: ‘the overall achievement of the pupils is excellent and represents the successful fulfilment of the school’s ambitious aims’. They also stated that ‘pupils are happy, articulate and confident’ and that ‘pupils grow into young people who make a difference to the world and live their lives boldly’.

Small class sizes and a teacher/pupil ratio of 4:1 ensure all pupils receive engaging teaching and individual attention. Our diverse range of co-curricular subjects and activities evolve every year to accommodate new trends and interests. This ‘have a go’ attitude is infectious and filters down from the upper year groups, which means that girls have the confidence to take risks. Pupils learn where their strengths and challenges lay and are enabled to improve on both.

Well-known for our prowess in the Arts, students enjoy participating in the wide range of Drama and Musical events that take place each term. Heathfield is the only school in the UK to benefit from a Creative Partnership with Falmouth School of Art and a unique collaboration with Parsons, Paris. Students also benefit from the close relationship with the world-famous London College of Fashion, and Heathfield’s biennial Fashion Show is now legendary.

The construction of our new Sixth Form Centre is now complete, facilitating our new Sixth Form programme which includes Mentorship, Leadership and Presentation skills.

Standing in beautiful surroundings just outside Ascot, the school is conveniently located being just 30 miles from central London, 9 miles from the M4 and 5 miles from the M3 motorways.

Entry is at 11, 13 or 16. Scholarships are awarded for Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport at all three entry points. The school holds termly open mornings. Please visit our website for details: heathfieldschool.net
