Gosport & Fareham Multi Academy Trust are seeking an innovative PE teacher to join our community. You should be a passionate lifelong learner who is hardworking and enthusiastic with excellent subject knowledge. You will be a motivated individual with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students to love learning and excel in your subject area. The successful applicant will be prepared to share their practice with colleagues and fully contribute to our in-house programme of continuing professional development.

The person appointed will be expected to teach across the age and ability range and to play a part, together with other colleagues, in continuing the good work and development of the department. Extracurricular activities are an outstanding feature of the school and the appointee would be expected to play a full and active part in its continued delivery. We would be particularly keen to appoint someone who can offer a broad range of activities, however in-depth knowledge in Rugby would be advantageous.

We would expect the candidate to have the capacity to teach A level PE.

The department facilities include a new 6 court sports hall, Astroturf, gymnasium and extensive outdoor areas including a 4 netball/6 tennis court tarmac area, 5 full-sized football pitches and 2 rugby pitches. In the summer an 8 lane athletics track and numerous rounders and softball/baseball pitches are in use as well as outdoor volleyball courts.

In core PE at both Key Stage 3 and 4, the aim of the department is to deliver high quality PE through a broad, balanced curriculum. This gives all pupils the opportunity to promote their physical competence and development, enhance their aesthetic understanding and develop positive attitudes towards physical activity.

In years 7 and 8 classes are taught in single gender, ability groups. In year 9, to sustain motivation and achievement the curriculum changes in design. Pupils opt for certain pathway of activities depending on their strengths and interests.  In Year 11 the core curriculum operates as an elective, option-based programme, whereby pupils are offered a variety of activities at regular intervals in which to choose from.

Pupils are regularly assessed using mastery statements and the results of these summative assessments are used as a basis for setting and reporting.  Pupils have the opportunity to study Physical Education as an examination based subject.

Two courses are offered from year 10 onwards, namely the OCR GCSE in Physical Education and the Cambridge National Certificate in Sports Studies. In the sixth form A and AS level PE is offered and the department results are very good. A number of our students go on to study sports related degrees at university. Sport and physical activity remains a key part of sixth form life in the school.

As a department we endeavour to offer a broad and balanced curriculum taking into consideration pupil preference and encouraging interest and participation for the benefit of later life. In 2016 the school was nominated for the TES Healthy School Award and the departments work towards Health and Wellbeing was cited as playing a large part in this success.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher of Physical Education who will strengthen this high performing team. For the right candidate there is scope for a position of leadership helping to develop the department’s curriculum and provision.

Applications from suitably experienced professionals and NQTs are most welcome.
