Greenshaw High School is a highly over-subscribed 11-19 comprehensive school situated in Sutton, south-west London, and is part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. Greenshaw has a reputation for providing a dynamic education within a happy and caring environment, and we are proud of our successes as a genuine comprehensive school. We are committed to achieving the best for the youngsters in our care, refusing to accept that there is a limit on what can be achieved. We are ambitious for our school and the professional development of our staff is at the forefront of our improvement.
We are looking for a highly motivated and committed individual with a passion for Physical Education and the ability to inspire our staff and students to join our school as a Teacher of Boys’ Physical Education. The successful candidate will teach boys’ Physical Education up to Key Stage 4 (up to Key Stage 5 would be desirable) and play a central role in the Physical Education department, with the highest ambitions for learning and rigorously high expectations. For the right candidate, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established department and make a contribution to its ambitious vision for the future.
The successful candidate will have excellent subject knowledge and a genuine passion for teaching Physical Education, with detailed knowledge of current curriculum and pedagogical developments in their subject and the wider curriculum. A desire to raise overall achievement in Physical Education through promoting the highest standards of teaching and learning is essential. Potential applicants with the ability to teach an additional subject are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applications are welcome on both a full-time and part-time basis. If you are interested in working on a part-time basis, please indicate this clearly on your application.
We also welcome applications from NQTs and offer an extensive induction programme in a supportive environment. Our NQT offer includes: a dedicated senior professional mentor, weekly purposeful practice of techniques and strategies, evidence-informed induction on the science of learning, a strong focus on pedagogical content knowledge, support on maintaining a sensible workload, a supportive behaviour management system and high levels of professional trust and collegiality.
PE is a very popular and highly successful core element of Greenshaw High School’s curriculum. Our numbers studying GCSE PE and Dance are routinely high, with two or three classes per year group. This is reflected in our excellent outcomes where we have regularly achieved ‘above’ the national average. We attract healthy numbers who wish to study both PE and Dance at A Level, with many of our students going on to university. The department is host to a range of excellent facilities, including a new all-weather pitch, fully mirrored dance studio with sound system, PE classroom with a range of teaching resources, climbing wall, four badminton courts, sports hall, gymnasium and a well-equipped fitness suite, which is used regularly by both students and staff. This provides an excellent platform for our extensive extra-curricular provision, with students regularly performing and competing in inter house and school competitions, including our annual athletic championships. Our annual sports awards evening allows staff and students to celebrate the success achieved across the year.
Pre-application visits to our school and to the Physical Education department are encouraged. Please contact email@example.com with details of your availability to arrange a visit. Potential applicants can also arrange for a call back to find out more about the role or the department.
