Job overview

Do you want to share your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for Business and Economics with motivated and interested pupils?

This is a key role in Emanuel School and would suit someone with a natural enthusiasm for their subject and an ability to deliver engaging teaching to all pupils.

We welcome applications from NQTs and recent graduates, as well as those with longer experience. The ability to offer a second subject would be a real advantage.

Naturally, we expect all staff to undertake a pastoral role as a form tutor, and to get involved in the wider life of the school through its trips, co-curricular activities and outreach programmes.

Why Emanuel?

Pupils are happy, confident and kind, led by a community of supportive teachers who are dedicated to helping each child achieve their best. • Sponsorship of postgraduate courses and training opportunities
  • Simply Health healthcare plan
  • Teacher Pension Scheme provision
  • Staff sports teams and access to on-site sports facilities
  • Ride-to-Work cycling scheme
  • Personal IT tablets for teaching staff
  • Social events organised by the common room committee
  • Free lunches and refreshments

About Emanuel School

“The school whole-heartedly fulfils its aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition in its pupils.”

ISI Inspection Report April 2023

Welcome to Emanuel. We are a fully co-ed school of over 1000 pupils, aged 10-18, with over 200 teaching and support staff colleagues.

We are an ambitious community. This summer, 87% of grades at GCSE were awarded 9-7, which is a lift of 37% across recent years. Our A Level A*-A percentage is 53%. This is 20% higher than in 2018 and the school is now recognised as one of the best for academic outcomes in the country. The recent ISI Inspection report noted that: “Pupils make excellent progress across the range of subjects and significant value is added to their academic outcomes.”

We are committed to developing all our major sports and value pupil participation as well as team and individual achievement. The school’s critical build plan will see a significant investment in our on and off-site sports facilities across the next 3-4 years. The same site plan will support the outstanding creative and performing arts teaching at the school, as the school’s plans for a large specialist science teaching block will also allow us to improve our facilities for music and drama, both areas of traditional strength. We were delighted that these areas were recognised in last year’s Independent School of the Year Awards when we won the award for our performing arts.

Beyond the classroom, we have a thriving partnerships programme, helping to develop our pupils at all ages as they participate in this work, and benefiting the local community, with over 1000 primary school children coming to use our site and work with our pupils each month. In 2021 we won the Independent School of the Year Award for our community outreach work.

At the heart of our school is a positive and welcoming culture. We are fortunate to have a committed and talented group of colleagues, people who recognise the importance of everyone at the school having a varied working life, a sense of personal growth and shared enjoyment. We wish you the best of luck with your application.
