Teacher of Business Studies
Required for April 2018
Competitive salary for the Berkshire Area
Additional paid responsibility possible for a suitably qualified colleague
At Kennet, we believe we find the right balance between being a traditional school and ensuring teachers have the freedom to take risks in their teaching and challenge standard approaches. Our school policies and practices are shaped by our teachers for the benefit of our young people, ensuring pupils leave us with exceptional life chances, both because of the results they achieve in exams and their ability to thrive in any situation.
Teaching at Kennet provides huge opportunity for developing & expanding your own teaching practice. One of the benefits of being a large school is the range of opportunity on offer and teachers are actively encouraged to take advantage of this. We also actively promote visits to other schools for teacher’s own learning, recognising the value of collaboration outside our own walls.
Our PPA time is deliberately generous, aiming to give our teachers a chance to maintain a healthy work-life balance and build strong departments. We also allocate significant funding every year to professional development, well above national average, and offer the chance to contribute to working groups on teaching & learning and literacy.
We are “Outstanding”, a title of which we are very proud and which aptly describes our school. However, we believe Kennet School is defined by much more than an inspection grade. We believe the collaboration between senior leaders, teachers, support staff and students in pursuit of the very best outcomes for our young people is something tangible and visible to all.
So, what are we looking for? Someone who is passionate about delivering an innovative and interesting Business Studies curriculum, someone who is confident about sharing their passion and subject knowledge with young people and who still recognises why they became a teacher in the first place.
Should you be looking for your first teaching post, we offer a bespoke induction and training programme with built-in support and mentoring to ensure this is the start of a long & successful teaching career.
Should you be a more experienced colleague, we want to offer you every opportunity to hone your own teaching practice and develop your career. We run an in-house leadership programme (Leaders for the Future) focusing on high level discussion, reading and research. All staff are encouraged to engage with professional development opportunities including both external courses and internal programmes such as our working groups and TeachMeet.
In short, we are committed to investing in every member of staff - we see this as an investment for our both our staff, and the young people they serve.
Why not invest an hour to come and see Kennet School for yourself? We love welcoming visitors to our school and are confident our current staff and fabulous young people will convince you to join us.
Informal discussions and requests for application packs are welcomed by our partner recruiter at Hays Education, Richard Lanning, 01273 729465 richard.lanning@hays.com .

Our Vision and Beliefs
At Kennet School, learning is at the heart of everything we do. Whilst many schools make this claim, for us, it’s a defining principle that guides our approach every day. Kennet is a vibrant, supportive and purposeful place to work, offering diverse career opportunities across a wide range of roles. Our staff includes forward-thinking, creative educators who are genuinely passionate about their subjects. Our motto, Excellence through Endeavour, isn’t just for our pupils; it’s a guiding value for our entire community.
We value a welcoming and rewarding atmosphere, reflected in the number of staff who progress into leadership roles or return to Kennet after gaining experience elsewhere. Staff at Kennet live by educationalist Dylan Wiliam’s mantra: "If we create a culture where every teacher believes they need to improve, not because they aren’t good enough but because they could be even better, there is no limit to what we can achieve."
