Job overview

Our current vacancy is for teacher of business studies to join us in September 2019 or earlier if possible.  The post would be suitable for an NQT,  who would benefit from a high level of induction year support, or more experienced teachers.

The person appointed must have UK QTS or equivalent and the right to work in the UK (tier 2 immigration sponsorship is not available)

The Business and Economics Department offers the following courses at KS4 & KS5:

● A Level economics (AQA)

● GCSE business studies (AQA)

● A Level business studies (AQA)

The department is a popular choice for students at both Key Stage 4 and 5, with numbers increasing in all courses. At A level we run 2 classes at AS and A2 for both Economics and Business. We presently run 5 classes in Year 10 of GCSE and 4 in Year 11.

Department overview

The department has grown significantly in the past three years and presently has 5 teaching staff. As a department we pride ourselves on our results, subject knowledge, extracurricular activities and additional support we provide to all students.

Results

Business A level results are ALPS band 3 ‘excellent’ with many students going on to study the subject at university. The GCSE results are some of the highest in the school at 89% A*-C. The department adds significant value to pupils not only compared to national results, but also in comparison to pupils’ performance inside the school.

Extra curricular

The department provides numerous opportunities for pupils to stretch their understanding of the subjects away from lessons. These include outside speakers from economic think tanks; lecture visits to the LSE, and an annual trip to Brussels to see the EU in action.

Support for pupils

We pride ourselves on the level of support and care we provide to the students within the department. This support covers a range of areas including UCAS applications and specific gaps in subject knowledge. We feel this support makes a significant difference to pupils’ chances of success.

In March 2023 Ofsted carried out an inspection of St Bede’s and judged the school outstanding.

St Bede’s is a good place to work. The community is vibrant, focused on learning and caring for our students. Staff relationships are very strong, supportive and welcoming.  Our students like the school and behaviour is outstanding. We have approximately 1900 mixed ability students aged 11-18.  This includes over 300 studying academic courses in the sixth form. Our GCSE exam results make us one of the highest performing non-selective state schools in the country reflecting the very effective three way partnership we enjoy; hardworking pupils, committed staff and supportive parents.

We welcome applications from ECTs and more experienced teachers. Whatever your level of experience, and regardless of whether you are a teacher or member of support staff, this is a school where you will have opportunity to develop.  Teachers in their ECT years benefit from an excellent level of support through mentoring and a full ECT programme.

St Bede’s is unique.  This is the only state-funded school where Anglicans, Roman Catholic and the Free Churches are bound together in a formal partnership to provide a common Christian education, which values the distinctive contribution of each tradition.  St Bede’s is a charitable trust jointly held by the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and the RC Diocese of Arundel and Brighton.  Staff can be of any religion, or none at all, but must be able to support the ethos of the school.

Our facilities are very good; staff have free access to fitness facilities and there is very good on-site catering.  Teaching and support staff have opportunities to be involved in a very wide range of activities and visits.  We are situated in Redhill Surrey with good transport links to both London and the south coast.  We are very close to beautiful countryside.  This area offers the best of all worlds!

Our school is committed to the safeguarding of children so all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check. Only applications made on our School Application form will be considered; we do not accept CVs or unsolicited testimonials.  It is our policy always to request references prior to interview.
