Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic, academically-driven teacher who is excited by the prospect of contributing to a new international school which prepares students for English qualifications within a Liberal Arts College environment.

Teachers joining our school will have a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant academic community that is actively engaged in shaping the school’s ethos. We are both informed by tradition, as many teachers have experience of studying and teaching in the UK, and inspired by new developments in education, e.g. the Harkness Table method, interdisciplinary projects, blended learning, formative assessment. To support pastoral and academic work, we use our own diagnostic and development program and also offer school-designed academic enrichment courses to supplement GCSE/A-level learning. Although at A-level the maximum class size is 12, students are often in smaller sets allowing them to benefit from more focused and personalised teaching.

The role:

To teach Chemistry students aged 14-18, across a range of Chemistry courses at IGCSE and A-level. We currently offer AQA and Edexcel specifications.

About the job:

The full-time teaching commitment is 20 hours of instruction per week with generous time allowances built into the timetable to facilitate effective preparation, marking, and report writing. Teachers are expected to either be involved in pastoral care (tutoring of a small group) or supporting student clubs and co-curricular activities. Teachers have 10 weeks holiday in line with the school calendar. The regular school week is from Monday to Friday, with occasional school events happening on weekends (e.g. open days, school trips) that teachers may be required to attend.

About you:

We are looking for professionals demonstrably committed to pursuing a career in education. The successful candidate will be able to both inspire and widen students’ interests in their subject as well as effectively guide them in exam preparation.

Educational Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry (essential)
  • Master’s or postgraduate qualification in a related subject (desirable)

Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of the subject Curricula– GCSE/IGCSE and A level (essential)
  • Involvement in extra-curricular activities (professional, amateur, or voluntary)
  • Teaching experience specifically in A-Levels or International Baccalaureate
  • Experience managing and leading groups of students/young people
  • High level of IT literacy

Interested candidates are asked to sent their Curriculum Vitae / Résumé compiled into PDF file to Marta Szewczyk at marta.szewczyk@akademeia.edu.pl

We have also prepared a special intensive SAT/ACT exam course for students who are interested in applying to American universities.

We offer IGCSEs and A Levels alongside Akademeia Assessed Courses, which supplement and go beyond the prescribed UK Examination Boards’ curricula. In years 10 and 11 students take interdisciplinary Akademeia Assessed Courses and iGCSEs subjects.

All students at Akademeia High School work towards A Level exams, giving them the opportunity to build their own academic profile from the wide variety of subjects on offer. This unique approach, which is tailored to the students’ greatest strengths, allows them to develop several valuable skills, such as critical thinking, effective communication and problem solving.

Our school focuses on developing both students’ academic abilities and their artistic, athletic and leadership potential.
