Teacher of Classics

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced or newly qualified Classics Teacher to play a key role in a popular Classics Department.

Teaching Latin and Classical Civilisation from beginners’ level to A-Level and beyond, you will be a well-qualified and experienced graduate who is able to teach highly motivated and talented pupils and be willing to contribute to the rich extra-curricular life of the School. 

Teaching Greek is not essential, but the ability to teach Latin is.

Latin is compulsory for all girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 and the upper sets in Year 9 are also taught Classical Greek. There is a high uptake each year at GCSE and A Level for Latin, Classical Greek and Classical Civilisation and pupils regularly progress to read classical subjects at Oxford or Cambridge, as well as other leading universities.

The department offers a full and exciting extra-curricular programme to encourage pupils to fuel their passion and deepen their understanding of the Classical world, including annual visits to classical sites both within the UK and overseas. The Senior Classics Society also attracts key speakers to give talks on a range of topics. In addition, staff members are involved in the outreach teaching of Latin at local primary schools in Camden.
