Job overview
Bacon’s has long been an important part of the fabric of South East London and has served the community in its various forms for over three hundred years. We are proud of that history and determined to meet the needs of students today and tomorrow. The school joined the United Learning MAT in 2018 and has gone from strength to strength since. We are now oversubscribed with first-choice applicants and achieved a ‘Good’ OFSTED inspection and excellent exam results in 2023.
Bacon’s is a thriving community that is welcoming of students of all faiths and those of none. Our values are courage, compassion, respect, faith and integrity. The strength of our ethos was recognised during a SIAMS inspection in 2019 which graded the College as ‘Excellent’.
We are fortunate to offer excellent sporting provision and other facilities. Learning is at the heart of everything we do. Part of our mission statement is that ‘students are exhorted to achieve academic and personal excellence’. We have the highest aspirations for our students, determined that anyone can achieve and overcome barriers that may lie in their path. We do not apologise for insisting that all students behave well and work hard. We believe simply that teachers should teach and students should learn. We are not afraid to endorse ‘high impact, low effort’ strategies and actively seek to reduce workload where possible.
Bacon’s achievements were recognised by Ofsted in June 2022 when we received a grading of ‘Good’ overall and in every area. We also celebrated our best ever GCSE outcomes in 2022 with 79% of students achieving 5+ 9-4 grades inc. English and Maths and a Progress 8 of +0.48. Our VI form results were also our best ever with 69% of grades at A*-B and an ALPS score of 2 (top 10% nationally). This is an exciting time to be joining Bacon’s as we seek to continuously improve and be a great school in every respect.
