The City of Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College is a thriving, lively and successful Sixth Form College, committed to social inclusion.  The College is located in an award-winning, state of the art building at the heart of the University Quarter of Stoke on Trent, adjacent to Stoke Railway Station, providing excellent travel links.  In addition, all STEM students are taught in the University Science Centre which provides access to sophisticated university standard facilities.  In September 2017, the College achieved academy status as part of the Potteries Educational Trust.  The Trust is working collaboratively with educational institutions from across Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire and beyond, seeking to improve outcomes for all children and young people in the region.  In October 2017, Ofsted Inspectors graded the College ‘Good’ with several excellent features and praised staff and students for creating a supportive learning community.  Inspectors were impressed with the relentless focus on continuing to improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, leading to our learners making good or excellent progress.  The College’s mission is ‘A caring community, delivering excellence and inspiring futures.’  

Teacher of Computer Science

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and successful teacher of Computer Science who will be required to teach Computer Science across level 2 and level 3 courses to meet the demands of expansion within the department. The College currently offers A level Computer Science, BTEC Extended Certificate in Computing and GCSE iMedia. Plans for growth include T level Computing (software development) from 2020. 

The successful candidate will have experience in Python GUI programming, SQL, web development (HTML, CSS and JS) and /or other high level programming experience. Good technical background and knowledge of hardware and the ability to supervise and support students in their programming projects and written assignments will be essential. 

This is an exciting opportunity for the person appointed to join a successful and well-resourced department at the forefront of Level 3 delivery. The Sixth Form College is also a leading provider of Computer Science as evidenced by consistently significant positive value added, ranking in the top 10% nationally.  The College has strong links with HE partners and staff within the STEM area are involved in initiatives to promote mathematics and computing within schools across the City. Computer Science is a growing, successful and popular subject area within the College.

In addition, an opportunity to work with the Computing Hub as a Primary Lead to support the development and delivery of a local CPD programme in schools that improves the skills and knowledge of teachers may be available for suitable and interested candidates.
