Job overview

Meldrum Academy welcomes expressions of interest for this post from someone who is
innovative and team orientated, to join our well-established and successful BEIT Faculty. Although
advertised as a full-time post, consideration would also be given to applicants seeking part-time
work on a 0.7FTE minimum basis.
The ethos of the faculty reflects Meldrum Academy’s school motto “Working Together for
Success”. Business Education and Computing Science teachers work together to plan and deliver
the broad general education with an emphasis on ensuring that specialist staff teach their subject.
The faculty accommodation comprises five computer suites each of which is equipped with
desktop and laptop computers together with data projector and Smartboard.
Online resources such as Code Monkey, Code Academy, UK Hour of Code, Scratch and Serif
WebPlus/DrawPlus etc. are all features in our BGE course. Software Design and Development,
Web Design and Development, Computer Systems and Database Design and Development are
themes which filter through S1 to senior phase Computing Science courses.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of dedicated teaching staff delivering courses
designed to meet the needs of a broad range of learners. Students, on completion of the BGE can
choose from National 5 Computing Science, Level 5 Website Enterprise and Level 4 Steps to Work
and we work hard to ensure that students are equipped with the right information to make
appropriate choices. This leads to options of Level 6 Digital Passport or Higher Computing Science
progressing to Advanced Higher Computing Science as appropriate.
As well as the more traditional routes, the faculty welcomes talented beginners into senior phase
classes. Staff within the faculty work towards developing students’ skills, knowledge and
understanding and experiences that they need not only in their further education, their workplace
but also in their day-to-day life. Although the Faculty enjoys high levels of attainment, further
improvement is always a focus and we operate an open-door policy where students are welcome
to seek support when needed.
Senior and middle leaders work closely with their teams to build capacity, developing individuals
and ensuring that opportunities exist for all teachers to lead learning and aspects of school
improvement in order to develop their skills and widen their experience. Teachers lead others in
thriving Teacher Learning Communities and work with cross-sector colleagues to develop strategy
and practice that support progression in learning and transitions.
The faculty enjoys strong supportive links with other schools across Aberdeenshire as part of the
PSG and our staff regularly contribute to resource creation and exchange across the authority and
within the Faculty there are opportunities for staff to lead student trips orrun clubssuch as coding
or Young Enterprise and the faculty welcomes outside speakers.
