Job overview

Situated in thirty acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving Sixth Form College with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Following Ofsted’s latest inspection in 2016, The National School and College Performance Tables not only identify Queen Mary’s College as one of the best in the region, but it also places it in the top 5% of all A Level providers across the country.

Our success is founded on seeking to achieve excellence in every area and a commitment to raising the aspirations of all learners. We’re equally committed to helping our staff achieve their goals too, which is why we offer ongoing support, training and development that’s tailored to your needs.

The College has a commitment to making Performing Arts accessible to as many students as possible. At present, approximately 300 students are participating in the Department’s wide range of courses. The provision aims to meet the varying needs within the student population from those whose primary aim is to study Performing Arts, to others who wish it to form part of a broader programme of study. It also caters for those who wish to be involved in production work as a non-examined course option or as an extra-curricular commitment. Our aim is to provide students with an exceptional learning experience that’s as interesting, challenging and vocationally relevant as possible.

You’ll be key to making that happen as you teach across a range of courses from Level 2/3 (A Level, BTEC/Cambridge Technical), it is hoped that the successful candidate will be able to direct student performances for public and examination purposes.

The close working relationship between the Performing Arts Department and Central Studio provides students with unique performance opportunities and access to collaborative work with large numbers of professional companies, artists and technicians.

QMC has invested in the performing arts by building a new Music Centre which was completed in October 2013, The Charles Butler Building, opened by Dame Evelyn Glennie. The building includes a new recording studio, recital room and five practice rooms as well as being fully equipped with the latest sound and recording technology meeting the needs of the music industry and enabling students to learn the correct use of technical equipment, specific to their chosen career.

As a Personal Tutor, you will also motivate, monitor, support and guide students’ academic progress through regular one-to-one consultations.

Whether you’re experienced or newly qualified, you should be an inspiring teacher with a good working knowledge of recent post-16 curriculum developments. The ability to contribute to the development of BTEC/CTEC programmes - including innovative delivery and assessment - is also essential.
