Full Time Teacher of Drama

PERMANENT, from September 2021

MPS/UPS

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, well qualified and ambitious Teacher of Drama to join a vibrant and rapidly improving school.  The successful applicant will be committed to raising student attainment, and experienced in teaching Drama across Key Stages and for a wide range of abilities.

St Cuthbert Mayne School is a Joint Roman Catholic & Church of England School that welcomes all students from across Torbay and South Devon, regardless of their faith background. Our school community is made up of students and staff from Christian and non-Christian backgrounds, who are respectful of our Christian ethos.

There are currently over 900 students on roll, including 125 students in the Sixth Form. The teaching accommodation is of mixed age but well-resourced and maintained. Our exciting £3.6 million building project has now started, which will significantly improve the facilities for students and staff in our school.

It is an exciting time to join the school as we have started the next phase of our journey to provide an outstanding, inspirational and challenging education for all students.  We have a relentless focus to ensure that our children get access to the best possible teaching through a vibrant and engaging curriculum, so that they live life to the full both now and in the future. This will be a challenging but very rewarding post.  The school is committed to developing all its staff  through regular coaching and a wide range of professional development opportunities through the South West Institute for Teaching (SWIFT) . If  you are passionate about making a difference to the life chances of our children then we would love to hear from you.

The school was last inspected by Ofsted in November 2016 and was graded as Good in every area.  The statutory inspection of Anglican/Catholic Schools was also conducted in November, and graded the school Good in all areas. Both reports can be found on the school website www.st-cuthbertmayne.co.uk.

Drama at St Cuthbert Mayne

Drama sits within the Performing Arts Department which also comprises Music and Dance.  Each department has one main teacher with another member of staff contributing to Music.  For this forthcoming academic year GCSE Drama will only run in Year 11 (Pearson) which will allow the new member of staff to plan and recruit for an increase in numbers in order to run a new GCSE Year 10 cohort in September 2022 which could include a change in examination board.  There is also some scope to contribute to the key stage 5 BTEC Performing Arts course: National Extended Certificate which will run as a Year 12 option for September 2021 with a view to having both Year 12 and 13 in September 2022.

For the first year in post, the role of the drama teacher is to build confidence in performing, develop focus when rehearsing and understand how to give meaningful feedback.  Our learners love practical subjects but need their confidence built to be able to showcase their work.  The Performing Arts Department is increasingly working together to explore content within schemes of learning and an interest in Musical Theatre as well as other forms of clubs and productions would suit the role. Resilience and a good sense of humour as well as a caring and listening approach would suit the role and these are also the skills we are aiming to develop within our learners. Script work and devising are introduced within key stage 3 schemes of learning with more specialism in both of these areas offered to key stage 4 learners.  Physical Theatre, Choreography and Voice are focuses of key stage 5 at present.

The Performing Arts Department is well resourced, with dedicated Drama, Dance and Music studios.  The Department benefits from an exception technician to support the work of the department.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inspirational and resilient Drama teacher to join a small but hardworking and dedicated team to help our students realise their creative and artistic potential.
