Contract Type:  Full time

Contract Term: Permanent

Wymondham High is a very successful and oversubscribed 11 – 18 Academy, 8 miles from Norwich:

• A “Good school” with an “Outstanding” Sixth Form [Ofsted, November 2017]

• Tatler magazine Top 20 State School 2018

• Top 5 Attaining State School in Norfolk 2018

We wish to appoint a full time Teacher of Drama to join our large Performing Arts team. Due to move into brand new, purpose-built accommodation next year, Drama is an extremely popular option at Wymondham High with 146 students currently studying the subject at GCSE with these strong numbers continuing into the 6th form.  Attainment is high in Drama and pupils make strong progress from their starting points. Not only are the Performing Arts a cherished and valued part of our curriculum, we also see them as fundamental to the broader culture of our Academy. Consequently, our extracurricular offer is vast.  It currently includes staging biannual whole school musicals along with annual plays and showcase evenings. The Academy also boasts a full orchestra, jazz band and show choir.  We are proud to be one of only 20 Musical Futures Champion Schools nationally and over recent years, the department has built up an enviable reputation as a centre of excellence in the Performing Arts. An ability to teach all Key Stages including A Level would be an advantage.

This post is suitable for an experienced teacher or an NQT wishing to begin their career in a very successful school.  If you have any queries regarding the role, please contact Mr Kitt Garner, Head of Performing Arts via garnerk@wh-at.net.

About Wymondham High Academy

We are a high performing and over-subscribed school in the heart of Norfolk. A community that works together to do our best for our students, parents and staff that models our core values of responsibility, determination and humility in all our actions.

We have extremely high expectations and are committed to helping every one of our students become the best version of themselves. We believe in traditional values of hard work, politeness, and kindness. We aim to instil a sense of strong self-belief, dreaming big and aiming high in our young people.  We provide an ambitious curriculum high in challenge and creativity to enable all learners to participate in the full range of experiences, as well as a culture in which students are committed to making outstanding progress and achieving excellence, always supported by our exceptional team of staff. Alongside this, we offer an excellent standard of pastoral care through a dedicated team who work exceptionally hard to ensure our pupils have the very best chance of success.

We are building something for our students and community that is special, and whilst we are proud of our GCSE and A level results, we know we can achieve much more together.

Working at Wymondham High is a brilliant and unique experience. We value our staff highly and treat workload very seriously. All of our systems are focused on ensuring teachers can teach in a sustainable way without distractions of poor behaviour or bureaucracy.

What we offer:

  • Great students – working with them is a joy and you can have a significant impact on their lives.
  • Highly supportive senior leaders who are visible and have your back.
  • Very clear routines, including same-day centralised detentions, that support excellent behaviour.
  • A shorter school day once per week to provide weekly CPD sessions.

Next year will see the start of a £10m+ building development on site to include a new sports hall and state-of-the-art technology facilities. This will expand on our already-excellent facilities.

It’s a great time to join our school and we look forward to meeting people who share our values and our core focus; to do what is right for the children in our care and not what looks good to others.
