The position

St. Lawrence College, Athens, Greece is currently seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced teacher of Economics to teach both AS and A-Level alongside the Headmaster Phil Holden. In addition, the successful applicant will offer and be able to teach another subject at Key Stage 3 or 4 which will form a minority of their weekly teaching commitment.

Brief Job description

At St. Lawrence College, Economics is a highly popular subject at A-Level and the school is the largest provider of A-Level Economics in Greece. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for the teaching of both micro and macroeconomics to both AS and A-Level standards. He/She will be responsible for the development and employment of online and other teaching resources as he/she delivers a consistently excellent and stimulating standard of teaching, grounded in an understanding of theory while fostering skills of application of theory to real world examples, be they global, national or local. Above all the successful applicant will ensure the maintenance of a safe, inclusive, pupil-centred approach to Economics at our school, where lessons are always underpinned by a desire for best learning, shared by teachers and pupils. 

Given the Economics teaching will represent approximately 75% of the teaching timetable, the successful candidate will be expected to be able to teach another subject such as Mathematics, Business Studies, History, Geography or English at either Key Stage 3 or 4 to complete their teaching contribution.

St. Lawrence College places great importance on the excellence of the delivery of pastoral care and on the provision of extracurricular activities for all pupils. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to these vital spheres of British education fully and with enthusiasm. 

Brief person specification

In addition to appropriate teaching qualifications the successful applicant will possess outstanding subject knowledge, excellent communication skills and the stamina to be able to realise a continual improvement of the teaching of this highly popular subject. 

Previous experience of teaching in a British school is preferred but not essential - more importantly the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a vison for the teaching of Economics that can be shared with and his/her pupils. 

The successful applicant will be available to work starting 1st September 2018.

Remuneration

Our new teacher of Economics will receive a competitive salary by standards of British education in Greece plus Christmas, Easter and summer bonuses and other benefits. The successful applicant will work alongside friendly and supportive colleagues across our 20-acre school campus set in the stunning natural surroundings of the suburbs in southern Athens.
