Essex CM7 3NR
Teacher of English
MPS
Required for September 2018
NOR: 775
We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and dedicated teacher of English to join a supportive, enthusiastic and collaborative team. Applications are welcome from experienced and newly qualified teachers able to teach throughout the age and ability range and to engender positive relationships with young people. The school offers an excellent induction for NQTs and would be able to support you through your first year.
The English Curriculum Area has undergone a transformation in the past 3 years, resulting in a 30% rise in the percentage of students gaining a standard pass (9-4/A*-C), with 58% achieving a 5+ in 2017. Now under the leadership of two established Heads of Department, the team is among the strongest in our school. These are exciting times at Alec Hunter, since our recent Ofsted inspection, in July 2017, graded the school as ‘good’ for the first time in its history, with the report noting that “School leaders have established a culture where expectations of pupils and teachers are high and improvement is rapid”. We are therefore keen to recruit a team member who will make a strong contribution to our renewed vision for English as a high performing department at the forefront of the school’s journey to excellence.
Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming and forward-thinking learning community. In addition, we are full partners in the Braintree Sixth Form, which provides opportunities for some of our staff to teach at Key Stage 5. The school works in close partnership with Saffron Walden County High School, one of the highest performing schools in Essex, within the Saffron Academy Trust. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks, including two teaching school alliances.
Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.
Closing date: Friday 9th February 2018
Interviews: week commencing Monday 19th February 2018
