About the role

The School is actively seeking a part-time 0.6 FTE maximum term Teacher of English for our Ivanhoe Campus. This role is a replacement position required for Terms 3 and 4 2021.

The role is responsible for directing the work of students to promote learning in Senior English, and to maximise their individual growth in a challenging and caring environment. The role delivers effective academic programs and co-curricular activities and ensures students are provided with appropriate levels of pastoral care.

About you

This role requires the essential knowledge and expertise in Senior English together with teaching excellence. There is a focus on collaboration, innovation, and the ability to foster creativity, independent thinking and deep learning through varied pedagogical approaches. To succeed in this role you will have the following knowledge, skills and qualifications:

  • Appropriate educational university degree .
  • A high standard of teaching practice based upon an understanding of varied teaching and learning approaches.
  • Sound understanding of the principles of Senior Schooling.
  • Ability to contribute to an effective professional team with a shared vision for the schooling of early adolescents and young adults.
  • Interest in a curriculum that is holistic, challenging, integrative and exploratory.
  • An understanding of the ways educational assessment, evaluation and reporting may promote learning and clear understanding of those procedures.
  • Ability to utilise information communication technology as a vital part of the learning process.
  • Ability to create learning environments where individuals feel secure and valued while challenged to define and pursue their own level of excellence.
  • Clear understanding of the preferred learning styles of boys and girls responding to their needs with appropriate teaching strategies.

Principal

Gerard Foley is the Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School, commencing in November 2015, and is only the fifth Principal of the School in its more than 100-year history.

Gerard leads the School into a new era with the firm beliefs that all students have the capacity to succeed, that community and caring for others is paramount and that education can provide outstanding opportunities for all who embrace it.

Gerard was Acting Principal of the School throughout 2014, after being appointed Deputy Principal in 2011 and the Head of The Ridgeway Campus in 2008. His career has spanned roles in the independent and government sector, including the Head of Senior School at Overnewton Anglican College and Year 12 Level Manager/VCE Coordinator at Eltham College.

Gerard’s key aims are to assist students to develop their unique potential by providing a range of rich experiences through academic opportunities, the creative and performing arts, sport, outdoor education, intercultural understanding, leadership and service to others. He believes that active, engaged, critical and empathetic global citizens are created through exposure to local and international issues via the curriculum, and a range of community and international experiences.

Facilities

More than 100 years since it opened its doors in 1915 with 12 students in a Parish Hall, Ivanhoe Grammar School has grown to become one of Melbourne’s leading private schools. Today, it is a multi-campus, co-educational school offering Early Learning to Year 12. With campuses in Ivanhoe, Doreen and Macleod, families in Melbourne’s North have access to the inspired learning and exceptional educational outcomes on offer at Ivanhoe.

Curriculum

The primary curriculum at Ivanhoe School provides students with a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, teaching through encouragement and inspiring a love of learning. At the primary level, small class sizes ensure individual attention for every student and learning is enhanced with enrichment and support programs.

In the middle years, Ivanhoe’s curriculum, transition and pastoral care programs aims to engage students and ensure they are supported in their learning. The school’s Year 9 program A World of Experiences” offers students meaningful learning opportunities while encouraging independence.

The Ivanhoe Grammar’s senior years program and curriculum helps students prepare for the challenges of VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) over three years rather than two. The school also offers the International Baccalaureate and VCE at the Ivanhoe Campus and VCE at the Plenty Campus.
