The Academy International School Mallorca (www.theacademyschool.com) seeks to employ a secondary teacher of English Literature and Language from September 2017. We are looking for a teacher who is motivated and committed to teaching the British curriculum during Key stage 3 and 4, preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE exams, and teaching the IB Diploma English language and literature A.

A degree and appropriate teaching qualifications are essential. Ideally the applicant would have already completed training in IBDP category 1, language and literature A.

Ideal candidate:

  • An enthusiastic and motivated professional who is passionate about teaching English Language and Literature to secondary students, and drama to key stage 4.
  • A reflective and responsible practitioner able to adapt and develop with feedback provided whose aim is to be consistently excellent in the classroom.
  • A team player who would like to contribute to the further development of this vibrant and progressive department and an individual who seeks to professionally develop through whole-school projects and collaboration.

About The Academy International School

The Academy International School is a co-educational independent all-through school for students aged 2-19. It is based in Mallorca in Spain.

The school was opened in 1985 with 25 children and two teachers. Now, it has about 490 pupils. Students can continue their education up to IGCSE examination level and then move to our sixth form International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

We are the only International British School in Mallorca that offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The programme complements our curriculum from Nursery to Year 11 and provides the students with a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.

At our Primary School we are very lucky to have much outdoor space with a school garden, orchard, paddock for our horses, tennis court, swimming pool and football pitches.

Our new secondary site is purpose built for young adults creating the optimum learning environment and providing the ideal stepping stone to university and adult life. We have collaborative learning spaces, the latest technology as tools for teaching and learning, state of the art science labs, an outdoor amphitheatre, padel tennis courts, swimming pools and extensive sports facilities.

The Academy International School has been inspected by the Cambridge University Examination Board and is a recognised examination centre. The school is also a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain and is inspected regularly both by British inspectors and inspectors from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.  After several years of hard work preparing for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme we are a certified IB World School.

The student body is about 50% Spanish, 20% British, 10% Scandinavian and the other 20% represent another 30 nationalities.

The teaching staff is 90% British.

Academy students are encouraged, supported and challenged. They are offered a broad and balanced curriculum, delivered by motivated and creative teachers, to ensure that learning is effective and promotes a lifelong passion for education. We use positive reinforcement to keep children motivated and we do a lot of practical learning activities. The children are enthusiastic, enjoy taking part in all aspects of school life and mix very well between year groups.
