Job overview

From September 2024 we are seeking to appoint a fully qualified, enthusiastic and committed full-time member of staff to teach English across the age and ability range with the additional responsibility of improving and monitoring the use of disciplinary literacy across the curriculum. The successful candidate must have teaching experience with a proven track record of examination results; excellent communication skills; strong organisational skills and the ability to lead and work well with colleagues from a range of subjects.

The key responsibilities of the role will be to:

· conduct an audit of the use, and teaching of, reading across the curriculum

· liaise with consultants and SLT to create a vision and long-term action plan for the continued development of disciplinary literacy across the curriculum with an initial focus on reading

· liaise with the SENDCo, other Learning Support staff and English Reading Lead to analyse reading data, identify the specific needs of groups of students and individuals and disseminate this information to all teachers

· liaise with HOFs, subject leaders and the SENDCo to ensure that literacy skills are being encouraged and developed across the whole curriculum

· lead subject teachers to improve standards by training, modelling and coaching them in the use of teaching literacy with a primary focus on developing the use of the 5 key reciprocal reading strategies

· plan and coordinate the implementation of a programme that develops students’ reading skills to be delivered within morning tutor time

· formalise and standardise the terminology used across and within faculties when discussing or dealing with aspects of literacy

· monitor and evaluate the impact of the action plan regularly by conducting learning walks and work scrutiny

A warm welcome to Sunbury Manor School, a proudly comprehensive, mixed 11-16 Single Academy Trust school with approximately 1100 student on roll, with capacity to grow.
