Teacher of English with Whole School responsibility for Reading and Oracy

Witton Park Academy

Salary: Main teachers scale + TLR 2a

Location: Blackburn

Contract type: Full Time

Contract term: Permanent

At Witton Park, our guiding principles are simple yet powerful:

·         Children come first and are at the heart of all we do

·         Positive relationships underpin all of our work

·         High expectations and no barriers – everybody can achieve.

If our principles resonate with you, and you are seeking a new challenge, we’d be delighted to receive your application for the vacancy that has arisen in our highly successful English department. We are looking for an outstanding classroom teacher, with proven leadership skills, to take-up the post of Teacher of English with Whole School responsibility for Reading and Oracy

This role requires an energetic and dedicated practitioner, who can make a significant contribution to our school community by engaging, enthusing and challenging staff and students to achieve their very best in the subject. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate impact on student progress, have excellent subject knowledge, be confident teaching KS3 & KS4 and be well-informed on current educational developments and initiatives.

The role requires a thorough understanding of how reading and oracy can have a whole school impact. It will entail leading the whole school reading curriculum for Y7 & 8 pupils and managing the team of teachers responsible for delivering it, as well as working closely with the school librarian to create enrichment and extra- curricular opportunities. It will require the successful candidate to use and disseminate reading data to support staff across the school, and for them to lead reading through oracy. The successful candidate should be an ambitious and dedicated professional who is able to work effectively as part of a team. A willingness to promote extra-curricular activities and support learning outside the classroom will also be required.

You would be joining a team of colleagues who are passionate about making sure that all pupils enjoy the subject and are focused on securing the best outcomes for our students. We work collaboratively to share good practice, both within the department and across the school as a whole. Being a BSF and Google accredited school, we are very well-resourced with Promethean whiteboards and Chromebooks, with lessons being taught in modern, spacious classrooms.

We are looking for someone who can continue the great results already achieved by the hard work and dedication of pupils and staff in this department. Having secured 71% 9-4, a great deal of our work at KS4 is enhanced by the two members of staff who have current examiner experience with AQA.

The diverse curriculum offered at Witton Park supports a high up take for EBacc and option subjects. Outcomes for pupils in 2016 were judged to be good by Ofsted. Ofsted report and website will give you a flavour for other aspects of the school.

If you are interested in joining our friendly and forward-thinking team, and you have the skills and qualities required, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Please take the time to view our new website at https://witton.atctrust.org.uk/ prior to applying.

We welcome any requests from candidates wishing to visit the Academy. Please contact Samantha Tomlinson, Head Teachers PA stomlinson@wittonpark.org.uk if you would like this opportunity.

Closing date: Monday 28th October 2019 at 3.00pm.  Interviews to take place on Wednesday 30th October 2019

Witton Park Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. References will be taken up for all shortlisted candidates and appointments will be subject to satisfactory DBS and Employment checks.

Welcome to Witton Park Academy

Innovating… Engaging… Caring… Learning… Succeeding Together.
With pride and passion we unite our school and our local community, and lead the drive to be ‘always learning’.

We are extremely proud of our school; the achievements of our pupils, the expertise and dedication of our staff, our outstanding facilities and our reputation as a centre of excellence.

Our ultra-modern school buildings allow our pupils to flourish in facilities for learning that truly do enable us to trail blaze innovative learning – from the bright and attractive classrooms, to the fully equipped outside play areas, the facilities allow our pupils to fully explore their talents and to shine in those areas that they most enjoy.

A building, however, is only as good as the people working within; we believe we have some of the best students and teachers in the world.  Staff and pupils benefit from the investment we place on their development: as well as playing a key part in supporting other schools through the Achievement through Collaboration Trust, we have a variety of external partners from Google, The Schools, Students and Teacher Network and with University College London. Partnerships like these create opportunities for all members of our team.

We understand how important choosing the right school is and so, on behalf of our pupils and staff, we warmly invite you to visit our school and experience for yourself the quality of education we offer.
