Job overview

The Sunday Times ‘State Secondary School of the Year’ 2019; The Sunday Times ‘London State Secondary School of the Decade’, 2020.

Would you like to work in a friendly and dynamic Ofsted ‘outstanding’ school which prioritises the wellbeing and development of its staff?

Are you excited by the prospect of working with well-motivated and able children who are also polite and well behaved?

Then work at Wilson’s.

Wilson’s School Music Department is looking to appoint a Teacher of Flute. This position involves small-group teaching of beginners as part of Wilson’s unique Year 7 Instrumental Programme. All Year 7 students at Wilson’s receive small-group instrumental tuition as part of the music curriculum. The students learn instruments including the trumpet, French horn, orchestral percussion, flute, and bassoon. The successful candidate will be highly committed to the development of novice players, flexible in their teaching styles to accommodate a range of abilities, and innovative in teaching with small groups. The Year 7 Instrumental Programme offers a fantastic opportunity to recruit new players for whom music and orchestral playing could potentially offer a lifelong interest or even career. In addition the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on private peripatetic teaching of Wilson’s School pupils.

The successful candidate will be a musician of exceptional ability with a proven track record of student progress and strong commitment to the pursuit of diverse musical activities. Experience of group teaching would be desirable, but not essential. The Year 7 Instrumental Programme teaching requirement for flute is currently 3 hours per week in term time and is paid at a rate of £40.16 per hour. Candidates must be available to teach in school on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Whilst the closing date is Friday, 23rd June we may interview prior to this and therefore actively encourage early applications.

Further details and an application form can be downloaded from our website.

We are always delighted to talk about the school and so do please contact Hazel Ware, the Head’s PA hw@wilsonsschool.sutton.sch.uk or 0208 7732931 if you would like to do so.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  Appointment is subject to enhanced child protection screening including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
