Job overview

Teacher of Geography - King Edward VI Community College
Ashburton Road, Totnes, Devon TQ9 5XJ
Pupils on Roll: 945 (co-educational)

We are seeking to appoint an inspiring, innovative and enthusiastic Geographer to join our highly successful Humanities team.

KEVICC is a comprehensive, inclusive college that is committed to the best for our students, supporting them to flourish.  We believe passionately in the potential of each young person, regardless of their background or academic starting point.  We continue to enjoy positive progress at both GCSE and A-level, and are proud of our successful OFSTED inspection last summer.  We want to build on this great foundation and make our students’ experiences and outcomes even better in the future.

The Humanities Faculty has played a pivotal role in the success of the college.  We are a dynamic and dedicated team who are driven to deliver high quality learning that inspires every one of our students.  As strong advocates of the college’s inclusive ethos we have been pushing to improve outcomes for all of our learners and our recent results at both GCSE and A-level have been some of our strongest to date, exceeding national averages and local benchmarks.  Our outstanding Geography department is central to this success, leading the way in innovative teaching and learning across the Faculty.

We are proud to say that students love learning Humanities at KEVICC and Geography is fast becoming our most popular subject, with the highest uptake at GCSE and increasing numbers at A-level.  Our A-level students have been incredibly successful, with students going on to study Geography at Oxbridge.  However, whether students take a Humanity at GCSE and beyond, or follow a different pathway after Year 9, we are dedicated to giving them the very best learning experience.

KEVICC is committed to providing great enrichment and experiences for our students, and the Humanities team are playing an increasing part in this.  From our overseas trip to Rome and the Bay of Naples to more local excursions that explore the heritage and diversity of the West Country, we are dedicated to ensuring that our students’ learning experiences go beyond the constraints of the classroom.

As a College we value our colleagues’ professional learning and are part of two vibrant teaching school networks. We learn together frequently and regularly in-house and with colleagues from other schools.  We celebrate and share great practice, and we always want to find ways to improve.  The Humanities Faculty is especially committed to sharing expertise and resources and ensuring that student learning is of the highest standard.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Highly motivated and conscientious teacher with strong subject knowledge.
  • A reflective, forward-thinking practitioner who embraces research-led practice in-line with the college’s teaching and learning policy.
  • Committed to securing the highest standards of work from all of your students, with no exceptions.
  • Able to teach across the age and ability range, including up to A level and be willing to teach Humanities subjects outside of their specialism.
  • Be committed to developing their career and making a real difference to lives of the young people in our college community.
    In return you will receive:
  • The support of a high-performing, committed, talented, experienced, professional and friendly team.
  • A well organised curriculum and suite of resources for classroom use.
  • Bespoke development of your classroom practice through our high-quality continuous professional learning programme.

We welcome applications from NQTs as well as experienced teachers.  This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
