Job overview

Cokethorpe is an independent school providing education to boys and girls from the age of 3 to 18.  Situated in beautiful parkland and just ten miles from Oxford, the school has a strong reputation for providing a rigorous, broad curriculum underpinned by a firm belief that all pupils have the capacity for excellence if encouraged to be ambitious and take responsibility for their learning.

About the Geography Department:

This is an excellent opportunity for an  enthusiastic teacher to join a strong and experienced department.  The Department has well-equipped classrooms, is well resourced and consists of four full time members of staff. With small class sizes, Geography is a compulsory subject for all pupils in First to Third Form. The school has recently introduced an exciting "Cokethorpe Diploma" qualification in the Lower School based on project work and cross curricular themes.  GCSE and A level has consistently been a very popular optional subject with residential field trips worldwide.  This includes some staff being involved in World Challenge expeditions with trips this year to Madagascar and Norway.

About Cokethorpe School

Cokethorpe is an independent, day school for boys and girls aged four to eighteen, set in 150 acres of glorious Oxfordshire parkland, just two miles south of Witney and ten miles to the west of Oxford.

The School is unique in many ways; not only is our setting unsurpassed but we are also one of the only co-educational day schools in Oxfordshire with both Prep and Senior schools on the same site.

At the heart of our School is the belief that our pupils dig deeper, reach higher, and stretch further when they feel the embrace of supportive peers and the oversight of enthusiastic and experienced teachers who know when and how to challenge them. This sense of community is fostered by the close-knit House system where young people develop a deep sense of belonging; it is forged around the close, working relationship of the small classrooms, where teachers engage the intellect, encourage students to grapple with ideas, and teach lifelong respect and humility.

We are a happy, strong and vibrant community, in which individuals are generous of spirit, inspire friendship and support one another. Our teachers, pupils and parents value the School's small class sizes and emphasis on delivering liberal educational principles in an environment that celebrates individual achievements equally, whatever their passions might be.
