Job overview

This is an opportunity for a teacher who wishes to develop their skills working in one of Dover College’s very best departments. We teach French and Spanish from Reception up to Year 13, and Mandarin from Reception up to Year 8 with the addition of GCSE from 2020. We prepare our pupils and enter them for A Levels and GCSE in Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Italian and Persian, and are introducing German to the curriculum from September 2019 to further broaden our student’s options for gaining fluency in languages and equipping them for the future. The post will initially be part-time, 0.6 FTE, rising to full-time for September 2020. We have a thriving native German student body some of whom will study GCSE and A level from September 19. We will also be introducing the subject to Year 7 and 8 in anticipation of introducing German as a GCSE subject in 2020 and eventually A Level alongside French, Mandarin and Spanish. This vacancy could suit either an NQT or a more experienced teacher looking to broaden their experience.

• A good degree in German or a closely related discipline.

• Excellent organisational skills.

• Commitment to professional improvement.

• High energy levels and a willingness to work hard.

• Strong communication skills and high levels of literacy.

• The potential to support and advise other colleagues.

Welcome to Dover College

Dover College was 150 years old in 2021 and has educated over five and a half thousand young men and women since it was founded. We occupy a beautiful campus in the heart of Dover, with buildings dating back to the 12th Century. But there is nothing ancient in our approach to education. Our vision is centred around the following principles:

Small is beautiful! The values of the family run through Dover College. Our class sizes allow us to nurture confidence, encourage inquisitiveness and celebrate individual achievement.

We are academically ambitious. We take the time to really get to know each child so that the right balance of challenge and support is in place based on their needs.

We think differently. Our distinctive curriculum, connecting Early Years right through to Sixth Form, focusses not only on achieving excellent results but also developing inquisitive and creative minds ready for the challenges ahead.

We offer an all-round education. We encourage internationalism, democracy, care for the environment, adventure, leadership and service.

We are international and local. We welcome pupils from across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, encouraging everyone to be inclusive, unprejudiced, cosmopolitan and outward-looking.

Whether you are applying for a teaching role, or one within our support services, your contribution to our team will be immensely valuable.
