Job overview
Teacher of German
St Bede's is a school where relationships between staff and pupils are exceptionally strong.
We have a vacancy for a teacher of German able to teach from KS3 to KS5 with either French or Spanish at KS3. We welcome applications from experienced qualified teachers and also from NQTs who would benefit from an excellent induction period programme. We are only able to consider applications from people who have UK Qualified Teacher Status (or are eligible to apply for it without further training) and who have the right to work in UK without sponsorship.
The Department
Our MFL Department currently consists of 1 Head of Department, a KS3 Co-ordinator and a team of 5 teachers. We have a friendly, supportive team who are all committed to obtaining the best outcomes possible for their students.
In year 7 students currently take one MFL, either French or German. A second MFL is added for most students in year 8 and this is when Spanish is introduced. Although a foreign language remains optional at KS4, students who are able are strongly encouraged to take MFL to GCSE. We follow AQA courses, the examination results at GCSE and A level are good.
Why work with us?
The MFL department is well facilitated with a departmental office providing working space for all, and a suite of six specialist classrooms, all equipped with data projectors, connected to a desktop PC which facilitates lesson delivery via Google Slides and the use of DVD and Internet resources.
We also have a trolley of 32 Chrome laptop computers, which can be booked for use in any classroom. We use Expo, Echo and Mira as main course books at KS3. At KS4 we use the new AQA French, German and Spanish GCSE course book published by Oxford.
We support our teachers to achieve their full potential and provide you with the tools to succeed in your classroom. We can offer an excellent opportunity to develop your teaching career here at St Bede's, and strong support from our Senior Leadership Team.
St Bede's school is situated in the Surrey fringe. The surrounding area is residential 'commuter belt' but we also have beautiful countryside within walking distance of the site. From Redhill train station there are good transport links to London and the south coast. We are also close to junction 8 of the M25.

In March 2023 Ofsted carried out an inspection of St Bede’s and judged the school outstanding.
St Bede’s is a good place to work. The community is vibrant, focused on learning and caring for our students. Staff relationships are very strong, supportive and welcoming. Our students like the school and behaviour is outstanding. We have approximately 1900 mixed ability students aged 11-18. This includes over 300 studying academic courses in the sixth form. Our GCSE exam results make us one of the highest performing non-selective state schools in the country reflecting the very effective three way partnership we enjoy; hardworking pupils, committed staff and supportive parents.
We welcome applications from ECTs and more experienced teachers. Whatever your level of experience, and regardless of whether you are a teacher or member of support staff, this is a school where you will have opportunity to develop. Teachers in their ECT years benefit from an excellent level of support through mentoring and a full ECT programme.
St Bede’s is unique. This is the only state-funded school where Anglicans, Roman Catholic and the Free Churches are bound together in a formal partnership to provide a common Christian education, which values the distinctive contribution of each tradition. St Bede’s is a charitable trust jointly held by the Anglican Diocese of Southwark and the RC Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. Staff can be of any religion, or none at all, but must be able to support the ethos of the school.
Our facilities are very good; staff have free access to fitness facilities and there is very good on-site catering. Teaching and support staff have opportunities to be involved in a very wide range of activities and visits. We are situated in Redhill Surrey with good transport links to both London and the south coast. We are very close to beautiful countryside. This area offers the best of all worlds!
Our school is committed to the safeguarding of children so all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
