The role

We are seeking an ambitious and dynamic Physical Education specialist to join a well-established and aspirational PE Department at Bacon’s College. The aims of the PE department are to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in high-quality PE that ensures life-long participation in physical activity, delivers outstanding academic results at both KS4 and KS5, and ensures that all students have the opportunity to represent the college through extra-curricular opportunities and school teams.

The school has outstanding facilities with a full-size 3G playing surface, grass playing fields two indoor sports halls, a dance studio, four outdoor courts, a gym and two dedicated PE classrooms, all on site. PE lessons and clubs also utilise external local facilities, including a swimming-pool and Southwark Park athletics track.

About you

The successful candidate will be a key part of a dynamic team that delivers a broad and balanced curriculum that offers student’s opportunities to learn, contribute and lead. The successful candidate will be a skilled practitioner across Key Stages 3 and 4 in both practical and theoretical settings. Experience of teaching AQA GCSE PE and/or OCR Cambridge Nationals: Sports Studies would be advantageous, but is not essential. The department also offers OCR CTEC Level 3 at KS5.

Ideally, we are seeking to recruit a PE teacher with a high degree of knowledge across a range of team sports. PE is a popular subject choice for students and as a result, the Department runs an extensive extra-curricular programme including teams in netball, football, athletics (indoor and outdoor), basketball, dance, trampolining and rugby. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to this offering in order to increase participation and advance competitive success within the Borough and beyond.

If you are an ambitious, hard-working and resilient practitioner who is keen to develop your practice then we look forward to welcoming your application. Potential candidates are also welcome to visit the school and the PE Department prior to submitting their application.

United Learning

Bacon’s College joined United Learning in Spring 2018, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Bacon’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all who work at the school to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
