Job overview

Teacher of History

Required for September 2024

MPS - UPS

In partnership with the Archdiocese of Birmingham, the Lumen Christi Board of Directors and School Standards Committee of St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of History for September 2024.

St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. It is undoubtably a vibrant community where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. Examination results in summer 2022 and 2023 were excellent and in the top group of schools nationally. The Catholic Schools Inspectorate judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas and the school has recently been through a very successful Ofsted inspection. As a result, we are an oversubscribed school and becoming more and more popular with families.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual who has the knowledge, ability and confidence to have a huge impact on our students’ education from day one. We are looking for a specialist who:

  • is enthusiastic about recent developments in the History curriculum
  • is passionate about teaching across key stages 3, 4 & 5
  • has high expectations of themselves and their students
  • has a commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team.

Under recent new leadership, the Humanities Faculty is dedicated to extending and improving its History department to achieve the highest outcomes. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to build something special and make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to informally come and visit the school.

St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is part of Lumen Christi who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to satisfactory references, which will be requested prior to interview, an enhanced DBS check, online searches, medical, evidence of qualifications plus verification of the Right to Work (RTW) in the UK. All applicants will also be required to provide two suitable references.

Please review our Safeguarding Policy here

Closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 20th May 2024.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 21st May 2024.

Values and Vision

St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School’s mission statement is: ‘Christ is at the centre of our school community where we live, love and learn together’. It is a place where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. Leaders, teacher and governors share a vision of a holistic education and seek to develop committed learners and exceptional people.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is unapologetically ambitious for the children we serve. The school pursues a knowledge-based approach; that is, the highest standards of behaviour and academic challenge for all regardless of background. In November 2018 the school was judged to be 'Good' by OFSTED. The next phase of development is to be a truly great Catholic school.
