St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic High School is a school with a long history of very high attainment and strong family and community support. St Gabriel’s is a warm and welcoming staff community. We have a very strong staff morale and Catholic ethos is central our vision. Staff CPD opportunities are second to none. We currently have staff engaged in NPQML, NPQSL, a bespoke middle leadership programme, coaching, training plus opportunities for staff to train as SLEs where possible.

St Gabriel’s received a monitoring Ofsted inspection in March 2020. The report can be found on our website, but reflected schools extremely rapid transformation. Some of the highlights of the report stated;

‘In lessons, pupils generally demonstrated positive attitudes to learning. Most pupils want to learn. Inspectors saw very few occurrences of low-level disruption in their visits to lessons. Most pupils behave well at social times. They are polite and respectful to each other and adults’.

‘The headteacher has a clear vision and wants to raise pupils’ aspirations and provide them with more opportunities’.

‘Staff feel that the school is moving in the right direction. Their morale is high’.

In summer 2019 the results were still extremely strong reflecting 72% English and Maths 9-4.

About St Gabriel's RC High School

St Gabriel’s Roman Catholic High School is a co-educational secondary school located in Bury, Greater Manchester. With around 1000 pupils aged 11-16, the school is average sized, and is officially a voluntary-aided comprehensive. First opened in 1954, the school retains official partnership and associations with a number of local Catholic churches, as well as the Diocese of Salford. The Local Authority retains primary responsibility for running the schools, however, and St Gabriel’s admissions policy still priorities children from Catholic backgrounds (although all faiths are welcome to attend).

Values and Vision

As a school founded in the Catholic tradition, traditional Christian values play a huge part in the day-to-day running of the school. The school maintains its own pupil chaplaincy team in close co-operation with local priests, with school mass being conducted regularly. In keeping with traditional Christian principles, St Gabriel’s works hard to foster a strong sense of community and togetherness among its pupils, encouraging them all to work together for the common good and to have respect for themselves and others.

Ofsted

“Inspirational leadership at all levels, an ethos in which each individual is valued equally highly and excellent safeguarding, care, guidance and support are just four of the hallmarks of this outstanding school. Students are very proud of St Gabriel’s and know that their teachers and teaching assistants have their best interests at heart. As one student said, ‘We are always treated with dignity and respect here and our teachers tell us that we are all head boys and head girls!’”
