Job overview

Cambridge International School – Teacher of History

For September 2018 we are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic and committed teacher of History to focus upon the subject in our upper school, Years 10 to 13 – IGCSE and A Level classes. A responsibility position may also be available for a suitably qualified and experienced person in the area of curriculum coordination or student development.

If you are a UK or similarly qualified graduate in History or a closely related subject with a recognised teaching qualification having History as a major you might find the ideal position here. Very important to us is that teachers have energy and drive and are able to motivate and inspire students. We are looking for a dedicated professional teacher who will contribute towards the achievement of our goal to become the international school of choice in the region. All applicants must be fluent English speakers and have experience of the British education system either in the UK, or in a British curriculum international school. Experience in international schools, though desirable, is not essential. We are willing to consider recently qualified teachers who display the outstanding qualities we are seeking including organisational skills, initiative, flexibility, independence and a strong belief in a student-centred approach to education. A warm, friendly, happy disposition is a must as a harmonious family atmosphere lies at the heart of our ethos and is very much valued by our students, their parents and our staff.

Cambridge International School is situated 50 kilometres / 30 miles from Vienna in Bratislava, the safe and comfortable capital of Slovakia. We are a young and expanding international school teaching the English National curriculum along with Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level. Class sizes are small - maximum 18 to IGCSE and 12 at A Level. Our buildings are new and of a 5* standard with large, airy and light classrooms (equipped with interactive whiteboards and other modern technology) as well as many common areas for students, staff and parents. We are not a selective school and students are generally from well-to-do local families or are the children of diplomats or expatriates working in Bratislava for international companies. 50% of our staff are from the UK with others from Slovakia and around the world.

Bratislava is a very pleasant, historic, central European city with daily low-cost flights from several UK airports. The city is as well-resourced as any large British city with entertainment spots (multiplex cinemas, theatres, concert venues, sports arenas, international restaurants and bars), shopping centres (Tesco, H&M, Next and Debenhams are all to be found) and a very attractive old town, as well as much, much more. Bratislava has the 6th highest regional GDP per capita in Europe ahead of cities such as Vienna, Madrid, Paris and Berlin. The city’s location, being just an hour’s bus/train journey from Vienna, two hours from Budapest and three hours from Prague make it an ideal low cost spot from which to explore the major historic capitals of central Europe. Other central, eastern and southern European countries can also easily be reached by budget airline from Bratislava’s new international airport. So all-in-all, this is a great opportunity for young and adventurous as well as more mature teaching professionals seeking a school where they can make a real difference.

Applicants must have a right of residency in the EU; Slovakia is part of the European Union and so work permits are not required for UK or EU citizens. We offer a renewable contract, good financial package and excellent working conditions, including small class sizes and a very spacious, well equipped new building. Apply ASAP by email, including a full C.V. and letter of application, to: recruitment@cambridgeschool.eu. Applicants will be interviewed by Skype initially. We hope to complete the recruitment process by late-December.
