Job overview

Teacher of History (Maternity Cover)

QEGS has a long and distinguished history educating bright boys from a wide catchment centred on the cathedral city of Wakefield. Ours is a happy, vibrant school offering high quality facilities and a learning environment which is energetic, challenging and fun.

Our recent ISI Inspection Report (January 2016) states “The school achieves its aim to fulfil all pupils’ intellectual potential within an inspirational and distinctively boy-centred learning environment.” QEGS received top judgements of “Excellent” in all the areas assessed.

Required for December 2017 (or January 2018), an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher to join our thriving History department, part of our highly successful Humanities faculty.  Applicants will teach predominantly History at Key Stage 3 and GCSE (A level also available for a suitable candidate).  The post will also involve teaching Religious Studies at KS3, therefore, an interest in this field is also important.

This is a unique opportunity for an individual to work with talented pupils and dedicated staff.  A contribution to the wider life of this busy day school would also be an advantage.

Applications are equally welcome from newly qualified teachers (for whom statutory induction would be provided) or from more experienced colleagues.

The position is part time (0.8 FTE) and is temporary to cover maternity leave, until the summer of 2018 in the first instance. Salary is MPS/UPS.  The Teachers’ Pension Scheme is also applicable.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, the successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Check.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School is a selective, independent, all-boys senior school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. There are currently around 720 pupils aged 7-18. In recent years, the school’s original Victorian purpose-built premises have been added to significantly, with the development of several specialist facilities including a sixth-form centre.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School was formed by Royal Charter in 1591 in the centre of Wakefield, moving to its present site in Northgate in 1854. The availability of bequests and grants enabled the school to attract pupils from a wide catchment area and a broad range of social backgrounds. This trend continues today through foundation awards, scholarships and bursaries. The school forms part of the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation group of schools. A single governing body has oversight of all the schools.
